Runaways Vol. 01

Le sleepy.  Stayed up last night reading the last of Runaways tpb#1 and enjoyed it greatly and am about to start on #2, although this time I might be a bit more strict on the "it's midnight, lights out" rule.  4am with work the next morning is sheeeeeeet.

I had honestly picked Chase to be the mole based on the idea that he might have parent issues that he thought might be resolved by being sneaky and helping the 'rents out.  That and he just seemed a little quirky in some situations that made me doubt him.  Nope, turned out all those pings were just him being a normal annoying teen.  Completely easy to see why I mixed him up for a spy.  XD

Alex however, completely blindsided me with his duplicity.  I guess I'm too trusting of the characters that end up in leadership roles and actually seem to care about how everyone is coping.  It didn't even enter my head to suspect him.  Probably didn't help that the series starts off with him taking center spotlight, which is a role I automatically place in the 'hero' pile.  Woops, that's a bad pitfall.  But rethinking it through after finding out his machinations, I could spot points where he had manipulated scenarios to go in his favour.  Sneaky, sneaky mole.  Granted, there were some nice red-herrings thrown in there as well...

Suspected Karolina when my suspicions of Chase waned.  But put her off since she didn't seem to have enough off a spine to pull anything off by herself.  Hey, I even suspected Molly for a few minutes.  Anyone that cute must be evil and have a hidden agenda.  XD  Nico... somehow annoyed me and just didn't strike me as mole material, so I kind've swiped her off the radar altogether.  Gert just generally rocks my socks and while I suspected her at points because she was so eager to question and dismiss everything (which admitedly did annoy me at points), I'm really glad she wasn't.  (And the squee that resounded when she and Chase kinda/sorta ended up 'together' was probably far to loud for the early hours of the morning.)

And on a completely different note... Chase's a lacrosse player?  Eh?  Maybe I've been given the wrong impression, but I grew up thinking that lacrosse was just favoured by girls in general.  And Chase struck me as, while not overtly macho, still the sort of masculine that wouldn't play 'girly' sports.  Maybe lacrosse has a different reputation across the ocean?  Maybe I've just had the completely wrong idea all my life.  Who knows.  The only facts that matter is Chase is lacrosse player that is a normal, annoying teen guy.
