Car Wreck

For those who don't know, and most of you don't, I was involved in a car accident at 2am yesterday morning.

I was driving back on I-89 in New Hampshire from a 24hr WalMart back to my sister's college: Colby-Sawyer college. I had just drank like two colas I was wide awake so sleep was not a factor.

I was cruising along on a basically empty highway at 70mph in the right hand lane, when I saw another car behind me in the left lane (it was a two-lane highway). This other car was going at least 100mph, if not more. As their car approached mine, I saw it swerve out of their lane and a little into mine. Afraid of a collision, I pulled to the right and stepped on the brakes. The combination of speed, brakes, and hitting the rumbles strips caused my car to spin around and go off of the highway. I hit a tree with the rear of my car, and began to roll. I'l not sure how they figured it out, but the police on the scene said my car rolled at least three times, and then was finally stopped by slamming into another tree.

When all the motion stopped, my car was upside-down and crushed. I unbuckled and was unable to open my door, so I crawled into the backseat of my car and went through one of those windows that had blown out. I stood at the side of the road trying to signal for help for at least 15 minutes. During that time, at least 6 cars went by and none of them stopped. I crawled back into my car at this point, and retrieved my jacket and a flashlight. I returned to the side of the road, but no one passed now. I made another excursion to my car to try to find my cell phone, but it was missing and has been missing since the crash. after a total of 30 minutes at the side of the road, a nice man in an 18-wheeler finally stopped for me, and called the police.

I declined the offer to be driven to the hospital so I could stay with my car. After about 4 hours waiting for everything to be straightened out, the tow-truck finally drove me the rest of the way to my sister's school. I came in and woke her up to tell her what happened, and she drove me to the hospital. After two hours there, my parents came up and took me to see the car at the garage.

The car is crushed. Absolutely beyond help. The rear axle broke, and it was leaking every fluid I could think of. I was told if I had any passengers in the car, they would most likely have died, and the odds of me surviving were very slim; the seatbelt was what saved my life. The tow-truck man said whenever he saw a wreck like that, they were always pulling a body out, and that he was amazed when he saw that I was walking.

As for me, I got a few cuts and bruises up and down my arms, and a posible fractured wrist and a possible fractured pelvis, though I'll hear about the x-rays today. For the most part, I turned out alright.
