Ok, so I left at 1:15 Thursday to give myself plenty of time to make it to the train station before my train to Boston (from which I wrote the last entry). So I spent a good twenty minutes or so lounging in Club Acela until heading for the platform. My colleague, Ken, who I tried unsuccessfully to talk into taking the train with me, left work earlier than me to make his 3:00 flight to Boston. I was about ten minutes from South Station when Ken called me from his just-landed plane (which was, mind you, several hours late). I asked he and our other colleague (who flew with Ken) if they wanted to meet up downtown before heading north of the city. They decided they didn't want to deal with the delay, so while they dealt with getting their luggage, acquiring their rental car, and finding their way out of the airport, I popped out of the train station, hopped into a cab, and headed north. When I got to the hotel, I checked in and waited for the others to arrive to get dinner. Half an hour later, they arrived. The next day, their flight was canceled and their replacement flight was delayed. On Saturday, I walked into South Station when I was ready to leave, bought a ticket, and twenty minutes later was sitting on the train.
Yep, flying sucks. Heh.
I stayed Friday night downtown so that I could do some Christmas shopping Saturday. If you ever need to stay in downtown Boston, I can recommend the Harborside Inn. It wasn't that terribly expensive, and I had a great room, including a flat screen tv on the wall hooked up to a DVD player and surround sound system. It has a convenience store right next door and is near a number of good restaurants (I had some excellent prime rib at the Chart House out on the wharf).
After a nice leisurely sleep (the first in quite some time), I did some shopping at Faneuil Hall, Kendall Square, and Harvard Square. I was somewhat successful, but I still have so much more to get done. I was talking with a friend today, and the late Thanksgiving seems to have really thrown a number of us off schedule in getting Christmas shopping done. Hopefully I'll get everything done by next weekend so it can all ship.
In the meantime, please enjoy a little holiday spirit. This has become one of my favorite Christmas performances:
