Challenge 6: A Dean-focused h/c fic and art challenge / GENERAL INFO & RULES

Jan 10, 2012 18:30

So, this is going to be your basic challenge, with a prompting period, and later a claiming period.

If any of you remember our very first challenge here at the comm, a fic challenge (forever ago in internet years!) it’s going to be a lot like that, with a couple notable changes - 1. A reduced minimum word-count, so that we can have more challenges per year, and 2. This one is going to be open for art prompts/claims as well as fic ones, because we looove art here.

EXCITING. \o/

Thanks to kalliel for the fantastic banner, btw. <333

The basics:

Like it says above, this is going to be your basic challenge, with a prompting period, and later a claiming period.

It will be open for fic prompts/claims as well as art prompts/claims. It isn't a challenge where fic is paired with art, or vice versa; it's just a challenge where both types of fanworks are accepted.

When claiming opens, you will be able to claim one prompt only, to ensure people get a good chance at claiming the prompt they want. A week later there will be a second claiming post where you will be able to claim further and/or multiple prompts. You will be able to claim up to a limit of four prompts, and only one person will be able to claim each prompt. (Depending on the amount of art prompts we receive, art prompts only may be able to claimed by two separate people. We’ll seeee.)

Schedule:

Submit prompts January 10th up to and including the 20th.
Claim prompts January 22nd (opening 12 noon EST) up to and including February 22nd.
Posting period Anytime after you've claimed a prompt up to and including March 22nd.

Rules for authors:

Before we get started: This isn’t an exchange, it’s a challenge, and a pretty low-key one. So, no, you don’t have to prompt to claim, or vice versa. Although, of course we’d love to have you do both! ♥

  • This is a Dean-focused hurt-comfort challenge, so Dean should be the one in the hurt/comforted role. Your prompts/submissions may involve sick!Dean, hurt!Dean, angsty!Dean or anything else that results in Dean being on the receiving end of hurt/comfort.

  • Fic should be at least 1,000 words, but there's no maximum word requirement. Longer stories are encouraged, and very much appreciated.

  • No WIPS, sorry. Stories should be complete and posted to the community all at once (with links to all chapters included.) And if your challenge fic is part of a previously written ‘verse of yours, it must be able to stand alone.

  • Respect the prompted details. When writing your fic, if the prompter has specified a genre (e.g.., gen, Sam/Dean, whatever) please do follow that. If no preference is given, any genre is totally cool.

  • This isn't a requirement, but I just want to say, betas are awesome! If you're looking for one, our very own beta-reader list has many beta-readers who deal specifically with Dean-focused hurt/comfort fics, or you can post a request for one at spn_betas.

  • You may want to check out our links of interest for writers as well.

  • Your challenge fics should be posted to the comm anytime after you've claimed a prompt through to March 22nd, at which point a mod/mods will be be putting together a masterlist of all the challenge entries posted.

  • You can use the .challenge 6 tag when posting your challenge fics, along with any other tags you see fit. (Click here if you don't know how to tag your posts.)

  • The posting guidelines for this fic are the same as for any other post to this comm, minus the header form. You can use the header below when posting your challenge fic. It’s the same as our regular one, with the addition of a place for noting what the challenge is/who the prompter is:

Example of how to fill out your header form:

    Title: Whiskey In My Whiskey
    Author: someone
    Characters: Dean, Sam
    Genre/pairing: Gen
    Rating: R
    Word-count: 1,000 words.
Spoilers: All seasons, through 5x22, "Swan Song."
    Warnings: References to self-harm.
Summary: Uh, stuff happens. Involving Dean. Maybe you guys are better at making up summaries than I am. ;)
Notes: Written for hoodie_time’s Dean-focused h/c fic and art challenge, for this prompt by someone_else.
    Disclaimer: Not mine.

Or something like that! Of course you can add any other author’s notes to your header or anything else you want to as well.

  • To use this header, just copy, paste, and fill out the following form:

  • The minimum requirements for art are:

    Art -- 500 x 500-ish

  • Respect the prompted details. Art can be traditional, digital, picspams, etc, depending on what the prompt asks for. If it doesn’t specify, you can go with what you choose. If the prompter has specified a genre (e.g.., gen, Sam/Dean, whatever) please do respect that also. If no preference is given, any genre is totally cool.

  • Your challenge entries should be posted to the comm anytime after you've claimed a prompt through to March 22nd, at which point a mod/mods will be be putting together a masterlist of all the challenge entries posted.

  • You can use the .challenge 6 tag when posting your challenge art, along with any other tags you see fit. (Click here if you don't know how to tag your posts.)

  • The posting guidelines for this art are the same as for any other post to this comm, minus the header form. You can use the header below when posting your challenge art. It’s the same as our regular one, with the addition of a place for noting what the challenge is/who the prompter is:

Example of how to fill out your header form:

Notes: Created for hoodie_time’s Dean-focused h/c fic and art challenge, for this prompt by someone_else.

  • Prompting:

Rules for prompters are available at the prompt post. ;D

    Claiming:

On January 22nd at 12 noon EST when claiming opens a mod will make a claiming post and you will be able to claim one prompt only by commenting to that post. A week later on January 29th at 12 noon EST we will make another claims post and you will be able to claim further and/or multiple prompts. You will be able to claim up to a limit of four prompts, however please be realistic as to how many fanworks you can create before the posting deadline.

Only one person will be able to claim each prompt. (Depending on the amount of art prompts we receive, art prompts only may be able to claimed by two separate people. We’ll seeee.)

If you're not going to be able to get your challenge entries in by the deadline/if you need to drop out:

This isn’t a reciprocal challenge, and no one is going to be coming after you if you don’t fill your claims. ;) However, if you're in that situation, it's asked that you read/follow the next few paragraphs, please:

If for any reason, and you don't have to give a reason, you need to withdraw from the challenge, just PM or e-mail the mods under the hoodietime account and a mod will uncross your prompt from the list. This would be very much appreciated because depending on the amount of time left in the challenge, we may be able to make your prompt available to others. Even if we can’t do that, this is strongly encouraged so that the promtper won’t be on the lookout for your entry.

If your challenge entry is going to be late, you can either let us know (before the due date) and as long as you're not asking for a huuuge amount of time, we’ll give you an extension and add it to the masterlist after the fact. Or, you can just use the .amnesty tag whenever. In that case, your entry WON’T be added to the masterlist, but we’d looove to see it at any time!

    Just have fun, guys!

What happens to unclaimed or unfilled prompts?

You guys will be able to re-prompt any untouched (unclaimed or claimed but unwritten) prompts from this challenge during our next challenge of this type, or at any of the comment memes. ;)

    FAQ:

Q: If we make a prompt, do we have to later make a claim?
A: No. This isn’t an exchange, it’s a challenge, and a pretty low-key one. So, no, you don’t have to prompt to claim, or vice versa. Although, of course we’d love to have you do both!

Q: Do we have to be a member of the comm to make a prompt or claim a prompt?
A: You definitely don’t have to, no! Although if you make a claim, you will have to join at some point, as it is asked that you post your challenge entries to the comm.

Oh, and btw, feel free to comment to this post with any questions or comments you may have about the challenge. ;)
