Nodame/Naeil's Cantabile thoughts
Rewatching Nodame Cantabile live action while keeping up with the current episode of Naeil's Cantabile. Honestly I don't get what some people been saying about the Korean adaptation not being as good as the Japanese one.
Sure, there were some changes made in the Korean one that was different than the Japanese one (like some of the plotline setting was told differently, ordered differently, focused on some parts differently, Japanese cultural reference being replaced with suitable Korean equivalents, etc) but that doesn't make the Korean adaptation bad compared to the Japanese one. And actually, I'm quite enjoying the Korean adaptation.
For instance, Naeil's Cantabile didn't have those overly exaggerated manga-adaptation styled comic gags, which was something I liked a lot. It felt more like a normal drama compared to a live action adaptation of a comic; which occasionally gets annoying. A lot of Japanese manga/anime live action drama do use these overly exaggerated comedy gags in their presentation. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it don't. I liked the fact that the Korean adaptation didn't try to copy that part of the Japanese 'original' version and applying their own style in making the drama (as well as highlighting the funny part and serious part without going over the top).
Tbh, watching both at the same time kinda allow you to see how both versions aren't that different aside from the ones I mentioned before. Been a while since I read the manga, but based on the drama comparison... the main plot and character setting is still the same. The Korean version so far didn't have too much Vieira flashbacks compared to the Japanese one, but I like how the Korean version portray Yujin's plane and drowning trauma as something really scary and traumatic; as compared to the Japanese one that kinda turn it into scary but comic trauma thing.
And I read how some people saying that they disliked Naeil since the actress made her act so much like a 'retard', but really... Naeil wasn't any different than Nodame in terms that both of them are air-headed, childlike and a bit pervy on the side. And how both, when despaired can really be very down. Like sure, Juri's portrayal of Nodame and Eun Kyung's Naeil have a slightly different style of showing their cuteness and childishness (Nodame with the Ukyaa and Gyabo and kiddie animes, Naeil with her rabbit puppets and Jeju accent) but both of them are cute in their own way. Naeil's not trying to be Nodame yet is still shaped from the same base as Nodame. And really, people should not try to put down Naeil too soon just because they loved Nodame.
Between Chiaki and Yujin, I liked Yujin more now. It might just be me being biased, but I liked the way Joo Won portray Yujin right now. Not that I disliked Tamaki Hiroshi tho. His Chiaki had that certain charm... while Joo Won's Yujin had another charm.
It should be nice to enjoy both versions without having to compare which was better than the other. Because the Korean adaptation was also done well so far. And honestly a Korean adaptation was better compared to Taiwanese, since unlike the former Taiwanese adaptation tend to try to over extend the story to the point that the original identity of the manga origins disappeared. In order to make as much episode as possible. And yes, while the Korean adaptation also would be longer than the Japanese one... so far the pace was constant. 2 eps of the Korean adaptation covered 1 ep of the Japanese one. Not really that bad. The story didn't feel like moving too fast or rushed. And some of the plotlines could be properly shown and expanded.
Which is good, really.
