So I haven't posted in a while but since we've moved around the computers in my house I'm free to use my Sims computer a lot more freely now, though I still haven't been playing too much. But I'm happy that I finally have some time cleared away so... this is what I've had on my mind.
I was feeling kinda nostalgic and wanted to play Sims 1, mostly because of Makin' Magic which was my favorite of all. Then I remembered that the Fairytale Forests are, in my 'hood, the new name of what was once MagicTown. I remembered the fun of buying goods in the wooded areas with fairies and gnomes and the carnivals with clowns and even the scary dark parts and I figured that I might as well write about the place that's soon going to be the focal point of the story once I get the next few chapters out.
This little drabble that I've written explains the history of MagicTown, the Fairytale Forests, the different parts of the magical land and the famous people who lived in them. And of course the famed Hole in the Ground from Makin' Magic. :)
MagicTown was first founded in the days long before the Fantasies existed, in the time when the idea of multi-dimensional existence and travel was far from being discovered. For centuries, magical people wandered the lands surrounding SimCity and its districts. Monsters roamed the wild while warlocks and witches sneaked slyly through cities and did their bidding. There was no unity, however, for they were nothing more than wandering mystics to the people of SimCity.
One night, it happened that three people, two warlocks and witch, gathered together. They were the masters of magic, the powerful potion makers and smartest spellcasters known to all of the magical peoples who wandered. They studied the different paths of magic and experimented to their hearts' delight, and for a time they were happy with the power they had. They grew empty, for once they had mastered witchcraft and the magical ways and were aligned with their magical powers, they realized that possessing these powers and not sharing them was a heavy burden. Knowing that there were several other magical beings wandering the land, they came together and used their power to cast a spell on all the people who had magical blood.
On that night, a dream fell upon all of the magical people. The dream was odd, filled with bright lights and images of fairies dancing in circles as witches and wizards cast spells and gave off brilliant light from their fingertips. The magic peoples woke from their dream and sought out the place. That very night, in a forest that was hundreds of miles away from SimCity, the people gathered and were united for the first time under the two warlocks and witch.
They built cabins as lodgings and set up farms to produce crops. Taverns were constructed, as well as shops and larger homes. Society began to display a caste system of sorts, though for the most part, the different levels of society were equally happy and played their part in the community. Over the following years, the campground developed into a town with its own laws, with the warlocks and witch being in command. The people were happy living in MagicTown, and were happy to finally be together and celebrate their abilities every day.
Years passed, and the Town's limits stretched. While still secluded, the borders grew, and as a result, the witch and the two warlocks were required to divide up the land and govern the people accordingly. And so, divisions grew.
The first warlock was named Carwyn, whose name means "blessed love." He was an infallibly good warlock, aligned to the way of light. He had a love for nature, a fascination with fairies and a respect for all living things. He preferred a simple life in small communities of the forest, and as a result, the people who lived in the lands he ruled over were farming peoples, who grew bountiful crops of amazing size. His people lived in cabins built from the trees around them and were mostly bakers and farmers. Fairies resided in Carwyn's lands as well, and Carwyn ended up marrying a fairy himself. They had a daughter who was half fairy and half witch; the combination of such strong blood deemed her immortal to death by natural causes. She was known as Faerie Queen Mara, and when her father was laid to rest and her mother dissolved into stardust, she became the ruler of the people in the land known as Serra Glen, the forest dwelling peoples.
The witch was named Yesllyn. Yesllyn's main goal was to keep her people happy, and because of this, recreation became prominent in her region. Yesllyn was a neutral witch, aligned to neither the ways of light or the path of darkness. Because of this, she was not a biased woman and was very open minded to the wishes of the people. Her lands soon became a town of bountiful feasts, luxurious lifestyles-- it was the "party place" of MagicTown. Carnivals were signature of Yesllyn's land, as well as Magic Shows and Duelling. It was the cultural center of the land. Merchants were also popular since this land was in between both the lands of Light and the lands of Darkness. The most famous was Apothecary Todd, an old but wise man who sold various wares that proved useful to traveling witches and warlocks.
Carwyn never meant any harm in his rule, being a warlock of the Light, and Yesllyn was neutral, but the third of the three founders was named Krawan, a warlock aligned to the dark. Krawan was immersed in his magical spells. He became obsessed with knowledge and mastering the dark texts that had been written by the ancient warlocks. His attitude reflected on the development of his land, for the trees and plants withered, the houses were run down and scattered. His land became a place of people who were strong enough to withstand harsh conditions and was a place of many graveyards. Magical creatures lived there just as they did in the other lands, but these were far different. The vampire population multiplied because Krawan's region became the land of eternal night, because of the constant dark clouds that covered the forests. The prevalence of vampire covens increased, and of the vampires, Vicki Vampiress, an attractive but venemous vampire who was bitten at the age of 17, was easily the most famous. She was the talk of the town, and all those needing assistance in the land of Darkness could find her.
These were the differences among the three divisions. Some of the characteristics of each carried over into the region closer to them, but for the most part each region was able to hold some uniqueness without threatening the unity of MagicTown. For the decades that followed, new rulers who took control and maintained the order that MagicTown was known for.
In time, philosophers, thinkers and scientists provoked thought of entrance into MagicTown from outside. There was much debate over the issue, since many people thought that allowing mortals and humans to enter would cause great chaos, but soon these debates settled and an agreement was reached. A magical system of travel was established, known as "Hole in the Ground" transport. A small black hole was created, with a diameter of about three feet, was carved into the ground and seemed endless. A hole on the outskirts of SimCity was created as well, and a spell linked the two. Legend stated that if anyone was lucky enough to encounter the hole in SimCity, they were worthy of living in MagicTown.
For a time, the holes proved useless. Years after the creation of the holes, however, travelers started filing in. The first was a distant member of the Goth family, a rich family in Pleasantview, a suburban location. The Landgraabs visited as well, and other famed names to the mortals. The Goths and the Landgraabs thought the discovery of MagicTown to be insane, albeit amazing, and they returned home without much gain. Nevertheless, their discovery of MagicTown brought the area major publicity, and people filed in rather regularly after that.
The Mystery Man was secretly appointed to wander the mortal lands and select people who he deemed worthy of entering town. He provided them with a Magic Kit, with their own wand, magic station and Hole in the Ground transport set up.
All of these things led to the fame and fortune of MagicTown. The population boomed, the limits of the lands expanded even further and all was prosperous and well.
Unfortunately, the lands of Darkness were becoming the site of violence and anarchy. Krawan was a mediocre leader at best, and his descendants and future leaders could not base their leadership on a poorly established region. While Serra Glen and the Carnival Lands were led by governors, the lands of Darkness had no leader. Vampires, werewolves and witches disputed many times and magical duels became widespread. Magical duels turned into battles among the people of the Dark Lands. The battles spread to Carnival Lands and even Serra Glen, and once it escalated to that point, the people living in the Carnival Lands and Serra Glen decided that it was high time that they took action against the Dark Lands.
With the help of the fairies, witches and wizards, the people of the Dark Lands were defeated and buried in the gloomy places they came from. Run down shacks were easily burnt to the ground. People who had been suffering in the Dark Lands were taken to the Carnival Lands and Serra Glen and the number of people living in Krawan's Region dropped significantly. The vampires scattered as clans dissolved.
The good people of Serra Glen and the Carnival Lands ended the chaos that had erupted by defining the border of the Dark Lands with a line of mountains blocking off the Lands of the Light from the Lands of the Dark. They named the dark lands Gallowmere, and made sure that it was separated from Serra Glen and the Carnival Lands in all but one spot. In order to respect the initial founding of MagicTown, they created a river with magic that flowed through the entire nation. A statue of the Grim Reaper was placed right at the spot where the river flowed into the land beyond the mountains, with a warning to all people who entered. The statue and warning still exist, as well as the fear surrounding Gallowmere, the land of evil and death.
As for Serra Glen and the Carnival Land: they remained unified and close. The land expanded further and soon a clear radius of activity was seen, since outskirts developed for the first time, where simple farmers with little to no connection to society lived. The land as a whole became known as the Fairytale Forests, since the original boundaries of MagicTown no longer existed and the people had come a long way from their original starting point.
The spirit of MagicTown, whether seen as mutilated or flourished, lives on.
And that, is the story of MagicTown and the Fairytale Forest. Props to you if you read that whole thing :D
