Why she agreed to do a favour for her pig of a neighbour comes down more to repayment of a debt than any genuine concern for his welfare, but she supposes this is a step up from brooding and doing nothing at all

There are such creatures in my world. It's actually a skill some Adepts have to fuse themselves together into a giant dragon with multiple heads. However, it drains so much out of those Adepts that they nearly always die after it.

[And he's filtering it more so Mia doesn't see just in case the Doom Dragon happens to come up. Piers is trying to keep that detail to himself.]

Did they use such a skill for war, then?

No, it wasn't for war at all. The people of this clan were trying to unseal a power that many wished to see remain sealed.

Did they succeed?

Dragons are a rare creature from where I come from - they are close to myth than anything really.

[Not she believes they aren't real, seeing as she's dealt with them in her heroic tale.]

But they do still exist?

Some do not believe, but I know they do. In modern days they are already an extinct race.

What manner of creature were they? My own world describes them as anything from noble protectors to greedy and selfish.

Dragons are only myth in my world, as far as I know. But the stories about them are very wonderful.

[Oh hi, Karai. It's Ami again.]

[Ami again. Well, Karai keeps her neutral tone.] These stories would hail from Japan, correct?

Mm. That's why... I wonder, are they the same ones you know? It might be something similar between our worlds. [Ever earnest Ami.]

Do we not both come from the same world? [There's some faint irritation there, mixed with puzzlement. They both come from Japan. It hasn't quite occurred to her that there might be more than one Japan.]

[Robert was warned about Karai, of course... or rather, he heard the Hamato family speak of her in not-glowing terms, once. But he has no idea what she looks like or sounds like, so he has no idea what talking to this person means.

... Which of course is very bad.]

I had never heard of "dragons" before Luceti... [Granted, there are komodo dragons and the gliding lizard Draco genus, but Robert's only ever heard of the former as komodos and the latter was Latin he didn't connect the dots on.]

... But I met one, here. Or at least, that was what his friend referred to him as.

[Voice] Oh dear.

[Whether or not she knows who you are, Robert Hastings, is a fact that doesn't show at all in her polite reply.]

A dragon living in the village?

[And of course, Robert wouldn't be able to pick it up anyway with his incredible levels of emotional incompetence.]

Yes. His name is Toothless; from what I have seen of him, he is a relatively sizeable reptilian creature, with a blunt triangular muzzle, a set of short protrusions on his cranium, and leathery wings. He also had the interesting peculiarity of having retractable teeth, which is the apparent reasoning for his name.

[A scientist. A geeky little scientist. But they have their uses. Karai almost smiles.]

Do you know much about this Toothless? Beyond the physical.

My world had dragons in it until about seven years ago. Nobody's seen them since, but some of my friends were raised by them.

Raised by dragons?

...what happened to them?

[Voice]

Yes. Admittedly, that means that two of the three are idiots, but they're powerful idiots at least. I don't know the third person too well, but she seems to be the complete opposite of the other two.

Nobody's quite sure what happened. They just disappeared on July 7th in the year 777 without warning, and the people who they raised have been searching for them ever since.

[7/7/777, huh. That doesn't sound auspicious at all.]

Are there any theories? [Genuinely curious, actually.]
