A little ficlet that was suppose to be for the biweekly response and getting to a plot I've been avoiding in HPsixwords for month but hey, what can you do?
Nagaoka Yuu looked very much like a scarred fox that was on the hunt. He was a tall man, taller then most Japanese, and used most of his height to intimidate. He had a shock of black hair that was pulled into a long ponytail that trailed to the small of his back. He wore a Muggle style business suit of black, on black that only served to add to his theatricality but what captured most people’s attention about Yuu were his eyes. Over his left eye, so perfectly formed they looked like they had been done on purpose, were three scars that cut from his forehead to his cheekbone. It made his left eye a milky blue unfocused and pallid against his rugged skin. His right eye was solid black and lied.
Rumors said that he killed his brother for control of the family but no one speaks of it because it is said Yuu collects the tongues of those who speak ill of him. He likes such trophies, and he collects them often. Fingers, teeth, bones, Yuu takes what he fancies at that moment and displays his treasures at his Dojo. It is called the Ossuary.
Until four years ago, he had one pride and joy. She was a Kabuki dancer and his niece. He had many children of his own, but Sumi had always been his favorite, neither one made the slightest hint to hide it. He took her into his family when she was eight and her father- his brother and Godfather of the family- had been killed. His favorite up to that point had been his youngest son, a four year old who bore his name. Yuu once made the mistake of telling Sumi that he loved the boy more then her, and after his son died, he never placed anyone before her again.
It had been no small sacrifice on his part to give up Sumi to Alexander, but the marriage had cemented the peace between their families and consolidated to power to Alexander. The plan had been, until recently, that their heir Xavier would serve as a rallying point in a move to against the main family. Sumi had allowed it. She never went against anything Yuu wanted for her. She trusted him to give her power, and Alexander- despite all his weakness, and sentimentality, was the way to power. He was the head of the Oonda family and he was in love with her enough to go with just about anything she wished for, even waging a war to get her a Kingdom.
Until now, Yuu had never regretted the choice but as he stared across the dinner table at his nephew, he wondered how such a man had maintained the great Oonda family. He asked about his missing pinky tip first, and inhaled as he saw Alexander stumble over himself to answer.
“…I spared a life in battle.” Alexander said, pulling back his hand as if a snake had bitten him. “He had done me no wrong and did not deserve to die.”
“It was war.” Yuu told him. Yuu had a soft voice, raspy and deep and distant as if he was unaccustomed to speaking. Alexander flinched again and looked over to his son. Xavier was sleeping on the couch. Yuu frowned. “That isn’t a good enough reason, I can think of no other to please you.”
Alexander took the insult full in the chest. Gingerly he sipped his Sake.
“…What causes you to linger here?” Yuu demanded. “The King you served has fled, and your wife is behind bars. Every moment you stay here, you shame yourself and Xavier. The boy belongs in Osaka, under the watchful eye of those who understand how vital he is, those who will train him and groom him for greatness. What keeps you here? Shame or cowardice?” Yuu let the silence linger between for a long time. “And if this was Osaka, you would have killed me for such disrespect.”
“We are not in Japan. England is a different cr…”
“England is a cancer and you are infected. This place is a land where honor is bought and sold like a whore, where you talk instead of act, where the laws almost work and purity and loyalty are caricatures: toys to be used by children and then discarded. This place has no honor and neither do you.” Yuu rose suddenly, glancing at the boy on the couch. Yuu reached into his coat and pulled out a small thin sword. He laid the Tanto on the table between them. “I am giving you 24 hours, return your honor and I will take the boy. I will have my kingdom, Alexander, with or without you. Sumi’s child will be it’s Lord.”
With that Yuu swept from the home, leaving Alexander staring at his child. The blade glistened in the pale moonlight.
