So I've been trying to find a home for this stray cat in our area. Among other things, I posted an ad to
Petfinders.com. I got a hit last night, but the mail seemed kind of suspicious.
How are you doing ?My name is Boyd , i am interested in the adoption of your pet.Firstly let me tell you about my family, i live with my wife and daughter, my daughter is 15 and my son is 13 years old and they are good lover of pet.I live in my own owned house which has a fenced yard, and its a very conducive environment.i will like to know the adoption fee,and the present condition of the pet.My daughter Alicia will be celebrating her birthday in a week from now so i want the pet to be part of our family so that we can have a good celebration together .I am assuring you that the pet is coming to a loving home and it will be properly taken care of moreso the photos of the pet will be sent to you every twice in a month as soon as it arrives our home.A welcome party will be organised for the pet as soon as it arrives our loving home. I will be looking forward to your kind response as soon as possible.
Boyd
But I wasn't sure, and was considering following up, trying to find out of this was legit or a scam.
Hello
I saw the AD of your adoptable pet on the pet site, and my family are so much interested in the adoption, i want to make an inquiry if still available and what is the adoption fee? , please let me know if the pet is up to date on shot, i would be so glad to read back from you as soon as possible. thanks for your time.
Mrs Cindy and family
They both used the exact same subject line ("Email about Stray"--even capitalizing 'stray'), both mentioned an adoption fee (which I didn't mention in the ad) and both have email addresses that are names and a number. Also, they have poor English and grammar--the SAME VARIETY of mistakes in both mails--and the first one makes a bunch of promises that are ridiculous and have nothing to do with anything (a party? WTF?).
I can't honestly even bring myself to be annoyed. I already knew people were lying, greedy, selfish, grasping scuzbags. This doesn't really do much to put a dent in my opinion of humans in general.
I did actually receive a very nice, intelligent reply to a Craigslist posting from a gal in town who probably can't take the stray in question, as she has four cats, but who at least made some suggestions and talked about things like feline leukemia vaccine and testing and whatnot. So I do have something to compare these emails to. I'm not just make random wild allegations.
I think I'm going to reply to each and give them the email of the other 'person' and let them scam each other.
Grr.
