Fever Down Under

Jan 15, 2007 15:11

No, I do not have a yeast infection or some other type of crotch rot. It's just that my eyes are on Australia right now.

I love sports ... well most sports ... even hockey .... even field hockey ... even frozen tundra field hockey ... I'll even watch curling. A year ago, I never thought I would say that. Anyway, one of my fave sporting events started last night, er, today, er, this morning, er, I dunno ... How far ahead is Australia anyway? 15 or 16 hours? If you don't care about tennis, just ignore the following.

The Australian Open's first round is on now. I'm so excited after the short winter-break for the WTA and ATP tours. Now I get to see my favourites: Hingis, Federer, Mauresmo, Sharapova, Nadal, Bagdhatis, Jankovic ... Who? What? Jankovic? Yes, Jelena Jankovic is now one of my favourites. Anyone that follows women's tennis should not be surprised. This kid has been knocking on the door of the big tourneys for some time now. I think she's poised for a second week appearance and a few upsets.

Who will win: Federer (Men), Mauresmo/Clijsters (Women)
Who I'd like to win: Safin (Men), Clijsters/Sharapova (Women)
Who I'd love to watch: Nadal, Bagdhatis, Hingis, Ivanovic, Gasquet
Who totally pisses me off: Mary Carillo (commentator - just clear your throat, Mary for God's sake), Nicholas Kiefer (player/bastard: unlike his namesake Sutherland, this man has no class), Bud Collins (colour commentator: looks like a rotting corpse in a bow-tie), Andy Roddick (try concentrating on someone other than Federer, like your current opponent) and any person who mentions how poor Elena Dementieva's serve is (enough, already!).
