Bad habits didn't go away when you became a vampire. At first, Bonnie had assumed that they would, but after a certain amount of chewing her fingernails and cracking her knuckles, she'd accepted that her imperfections had followed her into the grave. Long showers had been another bad habit of hers. Her mother had scolded her time and time and time again for taking up all the hot water and being late for school in the morning, but Bonnie loved it. Even now, she loved to climb under a shower spout and close her eyes and just let the water fall over her.

And so, with her evening, Bonnie had done just that. Now, with her hair still wet, she sat Indian-style on one of the couches in the lobby, nursing a cup of warm tea (not that she really needed it). She wore a man's button down that was far too big for her, falling nearly to her knees, with the sleeves rolled up.

Bonnie was listening. She'd gotten better at that since she'd arrived in Rowan and then in this place. Then again, she'd had more time to do that without the distractions of schoolwork or finding a job or shopping for clothes or (mostly) boys. Bonnie had realized that if you listened, you could learn a lot. Like now, she was listening to someone in the kitchen talk about their peanut allergy. And she could hear someone in the shower singing a Madonna song, which meant they came from her world too.

It wasn't a bad way to spend an evening, really, but Bonnie wished she had some company. Some days, she just missed her sleepy little down in Virginia, where everyone knew everyone.
