(
If anything, her presence alone made everything much better. )
Serah knew she’d never find any sort of joy or thrill in fighting, and she hoped she never had to use what she did learn. She wasn’t a fighter. She wasn’t even built like one, and her personality wasn't cut out for it. She probably wouldn't be able last long in a real fight. She would never be as physically strong as Lightning or as hardy and resilient as Snow. She didn’t have the experience, either, and hopefully never would. But she would rather learn than remain ignorant, she knew that now. After everything that had happened back on Cocoon, she wanted to be prepared. Who knows where they would be now if she had been able to fight. Maybe she would have been able to escape the Vestige. Prevent everyone from being made into a l’Cie.
“I can at least learn how to that. I know I can. But I could never learn how to replace you.” She breathed in. She had thought this over. She had. She didn't ask this of Lightning lightly, and she never would have considered doing so had she not been aware of the possibilities the future held. “But I promise. I'm not about to let you out of my sight, anyway. We’re going to be together for a long time, whether you like it or not.”

"Nothing's gonna happen to me, Serah," and he'd almost added 'ever' to his phrase, but he knew now that nothing was to be taken for granted. He knew of what he was capable and he had faith in his abilities, yet hadn't he been turned into a l'cie? Everything was possible, even failure... All he could do was try his hardest to ensure that it'd always end well.
But I could never learn how to replace you.
He gave her hand a little squeeze, his heart heavy in his chest. Nothing had changed. Nothing would. "I think I rather like the idea," he smiled, the thought of being "stuck" with her definitely more appealing than the previous one. "Didn't I ask you to marry me, after all?"
And he still remembered that night, and the joy he'd felt when she'd said yes. He knew it was something that would never go away. "I think even Lightning's getting used to the idea." His smile grew bigger at the thought of her, still grateful at how things had turned out in the end. They weren't exactly the closest friends, but they definitely weren't enemies.
"Is that it?" he asked suddenly, pointing at a huge building through a window. "The caravan?"
And the view left him amazingly impressed.
