You shouldn’t have done that.

Her voice was faint, but nothing she ever said went unnoticed. He followed her gaze, realizing what she'd meant the second his eyes fell on his brand, inoffensive for the time being but still present regardless.

"Serah," his own voice lowered slightly, and he halted once more to stand before her, one of his hands on her shoulder. "Nothing could've made me leave you behind. It was the right thing to do." And he firmly believed it, for he never could bring himself to sit idly while he knew something could be done to help someone. Whether it was crazy or not. Heroes didn't back down, and when it came to Serah, it was even truer.

He gazed at her for a moment, his fingers slowly running up her neck to reach her cheek. No, he'd never forgiven himself if he had left her alone. He had promised to be hers forever no matter what, and he intended on keeping his words.

"It was the only thing I could do," he added softly, his voice but a whisper. His eyes reflected the love he felt for her, and in that moment it was stronger than ever. He wanted her to know he would do anything for her, and for as long as he lived; she wouldn't leave his sight ever again, even if he had to die to protect her.

We don’t need to go anywhere in particular, unless there’s some part you want to see?

He smiled at that, remembering the night they'd spent under the fireworks. It seemed so far away... He had told her then, and he still held it true to his heart; he and she, together, wherever they were. That's all he needed.

"I think I've seen enough," he sighed, his lips still showing a content smile. "The sooner we leave, the sooner we'll be home." He paused briefly, a playful glint flashing in his eyes. "Lightning's probably worried enough as it is."

Knowing Serah was alone with him was probably driving her insane, but he would finally be able to prove to her that she had nothing to worry about. And maybe, someday, she'd even let him call her "sis".
