He didn’t think he’d ever get used to it.

Green eyes stared dully out at the passing scenery, every once in a while focusing on a passing animal or an exotic looking plant before the moving caravan caused it to disappear from sight. He could choose to feel fascinated, excited, angry, or anxious about all that was happening, but instead he decided to go with a more depressing feeling: useless. While he was on a forced vacation of a sorts or whatever the hell was going on, everyone he knew and everything he cared about and all that he wished to be doing were as far away from him as the Sun overhead.

At this point, he didn’t believe that they’d ever make it home. Any of them. And so he really was completely useless. How could he help Dumbledore and find out what was going on with Malfoy if he couldn’t get back? Sure, Dumbledore was an able man… Horcrux-wise, but he didn’t believe him about Snape or Malfoy or anything! He’d trust the headmaster with his life, but that didn’t mean he had full faith in the man’s opinions and decisions concerning the possible Hogwarts-endangering plot that he alone, apparently, believed to be unfolding right under everyone’s noses.

How could he help to prevent it if he was stuck on a stupid giant’s back going God-knows-where doing absolutely nothing? Socializing seemed to be the main event… the only event that one could participate in, at the moment, but what good was doing so with a bunch of people who, if the destination was met, one would never see again for the rest of his or her life? Usually, this wouldn’t be the way he’d think about such a situation, but without any familiarity around, pessimism and isolationism seem as comforting as sleeping in his own bed used to be.

Harry scratched idly at the railing beneath his hands as he found himself getting pulled into his thoughts, and then abruptly returning to reality when he realized what he was doing. Thinking to himself had always been a hobby of his, but in such an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people, he really couldn’t afford to let himself get too carried away and become vulnerable. Though he didn’t have much hope in his returning to his world, if there was a chance, even a small one, then he couldn’t let himself become unable-in any way-to make it back home. He didn’t know if safety would be an issue on the awaiting journey, but there was no way in hell that he’d let his guard down even if it wasn’t.

Constant vigilance. He would never forget that.

(( ooc; tags will be slow because this week is exam week ;; plus, I'm on hiatus. I just wanted to get this up so that both of my characters have been intro’d. ♥ ))
