Sir, you can't park your van on the diving board. Oh hey, it's just a fat kid!

The softball game went very well today. I started at third base and played the entire game, which was a surprise. I had two balls hit my way and fielded both of them cleanly, which was an even bigger surprise since I haven’t played in five years and I was using a new glove that wasn’t really broken in. I even threw out the runners, score! Plus, I picked two throws from the outfield that were in the dirt and tagged the runner out at third, which was a bonus. In my first at bat, I got a nice clean hit to center. I’m not sure how the rest of my at bats were scored. Two were outs, but the rest may have been scored as errors, because the other team was pretty bad in the field. I made contact, which was the important part. I was very happy I didn’t embarrass myself on the field! Our next game is next Thursday, so hopefully I’ll play well again. No E5’s this season!

Tomorrow I’ve got another Orioles game, and then I’m driving home for Shep’s party on Sunday. I figure I’ll take my Mom out for lunch on Sunday for Mom’s day while I’m in the area. I have to drive back early Sunday in order to pick up a rental car at Dulles airport for a conference the documentation team is going to Monday through Wednesday next week. It will be a ton of driving this weekend, which I’m not looking forward to at all, but at least I have a nice car to do it in.

Speaking of cars (master of segue, right here), I found out the other day that the button on the driver’s side door that locks or unlocks all the doors doesn’t work. I haven’t tried it since my car was repaired after the accident because I usually use my keychain clicker to lock/unlock the doors, but I think it’s fairly logical to assume this was broken in the accident and not repaired correctly. Progressive, my insurance company, has a policy that their repairs are warranted for as long as you own the car, so I’ll have to call them early next week to get it taken care of. That means I’ll probably have a rental car for about a week until they fix this, which will be annoying, but at least it’s all covered. Or, I should say, better be covered, for the sake of the Progressive customer care rep who will have to deal with me being verbally abusive if they say it’s not. After working retail and call center customer care, I know how to work the system. :-)

Someone saw my resume on Monster.com and called me about another job! This time it was about a Junior Technical Writing position, which is actually the field I’m in. I was flattered, but I told the woman that I moved into this area for a tech writing job and I wasn’t interested. Apparently DC is the place to find a job, based on the fact that I was offered two jobs in three months without looking. For all you jobless people out there (or people that want a much better job), I’d consider looking in DC. Feel free to crash at my place until you find a job in DC and are on your feet!

Just got Radiohead’s Com Lag, which is a Japanese-only release of b-sides and covers from the Hail To The Thief sessions. I’m sure that won’t make anyone jealous, but it makes me happy.
