Whenever I complain about the weather or the unfortunate conditions in Oklahoma, they always say, "Well, it's hardly ever like this."
"It rains so much! It's flooding everywhere. I can't even drive across town to my friend's house."
"Well we never usually have this much rain this time of the year. Most of the time we're in a drought."
"I can't go anywhere with all this snow."
"We haven't had a winter this bad in decades. Usually everything just freezes and gets coated in ice."
"It is too hot to do anything but stay inside with the A/C."
"Usually it in the hundreds. We're having an unusually cool summer."
"These bugs are everywhere! I can't keep them out of the house!"
"They're really blooming this year, aren't they? Usually we just have a lot of spiders and june bugs, but these mosquitoes and crickets are everywhere!"
We had about 40 days of rain. Houses washed away and stuff. Actually, the rain is okay until those long overnight storms and then half the state is immobilzed because all the rivers are overflowing and the streets are drowned.
Then we had mosquitoes everywhere. I vowed not to go down near the river. I stayed for just 2 hours and was covered in bites when I got home.
Now we have so many crickets that they form huge black spots on the walls where they cluster together. You go to Walmart and you find at least one in your shopping basket.
It's the flood of Noah's day followed by the plagues upon Egypt. I told my friend Shela to check on her firstborn. It pretty much feels like the sun stands still in the sky all day. There is nowhere to escape the direct sunlight. I miss the overcast days in California.
Dani found a house to rent instead of the apartment. We moved out in one day. Actually, we moved all the major furniture but our clothes and plates we still have to move.
She also killed my fish. Her stinkin' fish survived the bug bomb but mine swam crooked for a day until he finally sunk to the bottom. I was kinda heartbroken when my friend had to ladle him out of the tank and flush him for me. I had to buy Dani's lonely fish a new roommate. Now I have a pretty little girl Comet named Nami.
And I just started something called "Modified Full Time" this month. That means 30 hours rather than 20. I put in an 8-hour day today which I have done before, but I didn't take it so well this time. I was ready to pull out my hair by 10:00 A.M. But I only have an 8-hour day once a week. Thank goodness for that mute button I have. It saves my butt every other call. One day I'm gonna forget to push it and really get myself into trouble.
I suppose there's nothing left today but go watch High School Musical 2 again and sob like a baby... again.
