I know this might not be a popular idea with a some of you, but I think it's necessary that we instigate some sort of a curfew. Now, I know the past couple of days have been cause for celebration in some of you, but the carrying on loudly at all hours just isn't going to cut it, mateys. That's why, in order to prevent the sleep deprivation I've ( Read more... )

This would be a terrible idea indeed.

And why is that?

In this place, in this enclosed place, we are allowed only so many freedoms. Things like the ability to socialise amongst the occupants and moving about when we so choose are precious liberties.

If you take away the ability to move freely throughout what space we have, there will be dire consequences. Most definitely unrest amongst the barge, wardens and inmates alike. There is already much tension in our confinement.

Then you can socialize during a reasonable hour.

Say, between the hours of six in the morning and nine at night.

Unreasonable to those who wake at five and bed by ten.

Unreasonable to those who have not woken you previously from your precious slumber.

Unacceptable to all the inhabitants of the barge, be they night dwellers or those who bed at an early hour. There is little reason to force everyone into their chambers at all - unless they are an inmate and are facing punishment. You cannot punish those who do good work.

Don't look at it as a punishment. Look at it as a new schedule in a previously unscheduled life.

Ah, but even I cannot abide a schedule so set in stone. It would be most cruel to be caged.

Then don't look at is as a cage. It's really not that difficult.

Tis a cage. I am afraid you are the only one who does not see this.

Then the whole bloody ship's a cage.

Look, I don't think having a little order around here would be such a bad idea.

Not so. As an aside, I doubt you've been to Newgate. Now there was a prison.

Your order would not suit everyone.

Yes, well, see how you feel once it goes into effect. You'll thank me then!

Thank you, curse your name. Either one, sir. Heaven help you if you take my time away from me, not that I truly believe you have any sway with the Admiral.

That's one woman's opinion.

Not that my sex should matter on the subject.

Is that what this is about? Is this some sort of sexist power struggle for you?

Well, I'm sorry. My full-night's rest is very important to me and it'll take more than playing the gender card to change my mind.
