Various friends of mine have offered, over the past few months, to take a look at my résumé as I was re-working it for software-job applications. I did not, of course, write these offers down, because I was going to follow up quickly, and besides, how could I forget such a kind offer? (Hey, my memory's normally pretty good for things involving people I already know-it's the ones I've just met that are the problem.) And of course, now my brain has compressed all of the above into the category "kind words about job search", and what I do not wish to do is translate "kind words about job search" back into "volunteered to help with your #@$%! résumé," because that would be stupid and rude, which are things I like to avoid being, where possible.
However, I am now stuck in the place where I look at the thing and say "well, this might be OK, or then again it might suck", and have no ideas for how to resume improving it (though of course, as soon as I say that, I'll go back and see an obvious issues to fix), and I know that some subset of my friends and acquaintances may be willing to help me with this problem. :-) So, open invitation to the friends-list: if you are feeling nit-picky and/or helpful today, or over this weekend in general, and have the time to do so, might you please take a look at this extremely irritating document and tell me what you think I should be doing differently? If so, please respond to that effect in the comments (which will be screened), and I shall e-mail you the current edition for your dissecting pleasure, and I shall then owe you profuse thanks, payable in the form of hugs, candy, or beer (or some combination thereof) as you see fit.
And if you are not or do not, but have time to drop in a few kind and/or encouraging words about the job search in general, those are of course always appreciated as well. :-)
job-hunting,
work
