What three professional music videos have had the biggest influence on you as a vidder?
I wouldn't say these are specifically influential to me as a vidder, some of them are of course, but most of them were incredibly influential to me as a "filmmaker." (Yes I used that word because I technically aspire to it, so say the monthly loan checks I make out to NYU. *shakes fist at The Man*)
These aren't really in any sort of order. I guess what tabs they're opened in?
NUMBER ONE - MADONNA - BEDTIME STORY

You guys know why it was influential to me. ;)
NUMBER TWO - BJORK - BACHELORETTE

I tend to describe this vid as, "It's like what happens when two mirrors face each other." Or when I'm standing between those two mirrors, staring into the cold, hopeless depth of infinity, I like to say, "It's just like that Bjork music video!" So you see, it's very deeeep, very profouuuund. Makes you think about creative things! I likes me a music video that gives me an existential crisis.
NUMBER THREE - TORI AMOS - SPARK

I actually remember this video premiering on TRL with Carson Daly (lolololol) and just sitting there afterwards trying to process what I'd seen. It was like a punch to the gut. And to this day I believe that this video should be used in film school as a teaching tool because it's not a music video at all, it's a short film set to music. So clear, so concise, so beautifully tragic. Yum!
So these next ones are BONUS. (But they're really not as they're equally influential.)
BONUS - MASSIVE ATTACK - BUTTERFLY CAUGHT
Here's another video that's a wonderfully sad story about a character trying to escape. Except he doesn't leave his prison or try to fight. I'm completely obsessed with the visuals. It's a bit X-Men, isn't it? The gradual transformation is something I'm desperate to do in vidding, but the right marriage of ideas has to happen so it can work. Nonetheless I'm keeping it in my pocket if something comes along. Want pretty!
BONUS - GARBAGE - PUSH IT

This one deserves a mention just because I once spent 20 hours in the edit bay scratching out
ohvienna's face from every frame of this 8mm short I shot for class using a MacGyver style paperclip thing I rigged up. I thought for sure my hand was going to fall off after it was all done! But it looked really cool. :P And 100% inspired by this video. :)
BONUS - THE SMASHING PUMPKINS - AVA ADORE

This video taught me about SPEED RAMPING!!! So clearly it's like the most influential, lol.
So there you have it. So many more that could have gone on this list!
ETA: I added another bonus. Kinda crucial, especially for vidding. ;)
