Notes: I owe this vid to two incredible sources...
The first is Madonna's actual Bedtime Story music video. I used to have (first a VHS then) a DVD of Madonna's various music videos and this one was always my favorite. I suppose that's what you get when you have a song written by Bjork and a video directed by Mark Romanek. In the mid-90's this was the shit! The images are incredibly surreal and I remember how much they stuck with me. My favorite? The Whirling Dervishes. And how might you ask is this relevant? Why yes, there was a day not too long ago where I found myself chillaxing with some LotS and then I went a bit cuckoo while oogling Kahlan's various battle twirlings and swooshings. See there's always a moment when her skirts and sleeves billow, her arms come out, and the movement is slowed to expand the ethereal quality of the motion. And that took me right back to that Whirling Dervish I used to obsess over which made my thought process suddenly jumped to, "Hey! Is this song viddable?!" (Then immediately, "And I have a fandom that provides with enough pretty to do it justice!") So here my intentions were to emulate that floaty dream-like quality of the song and combine it with as much surreal crap as I could manage. I wanted it to be a dream that Richard has, so that his thoughts and feelings become jumbled with the experiences he has had. Everything becomes a rush of emotion, a kind of sensory overload. But always surreal, always messing with him.
The second inspiration and catalyst for this vid came from one of the hottest vids out there...charmax's Boom Boom Ba. I wanted to give Richard and Kahlan something as NGUUHHH as what charmax gave to Xena and Gabrielle. (The lust! Oh the lust is epic.) And isn't it amusing how the Sam Raimi/Rob Tappert syndicated programming always manages to pull off the most incredible SEXY TIEMS on telly?
