You know what's awesome? Vids. Vids are just fooking awesome, aren't they?
And you know what's even moar awesome than that? Someone making their first vid. Do you guys remember that feeling? I remember it so freakin well. (Maybe because discovering vids was one of the major events of my life. I was a freshman at NYU when I found some Buffy vids online and went WAAAAAT? YOU MEAN YOU CAN PUT MY FAVORITE SHOW TO A FUN SONG AND STUFF??? OMG SO THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN MISSING ALL THESE YEARS! It was like love at first sight.) Vidding, y'all. It's like this world you want to be a part of! You look at a hot shit vid and you're like I WANT TO GO TO THERE!
So there you are, contemplating, deciding, perpetually walking the line of, "Am I ready to do this? Yes, I'm actually going to do this! Am I? Yes, yes I am!" (For some reason I was always more scared of vidding than actually editing film. IDEK.) And the planning? Boy that planning is meticulous. I sat through practically all my news media classes (lol skience credit, yay film school!) jotting down which clips would match each second of the song. And then you're there in front of the puter, opening up the whatever program you have handy and staring all boggled 0_o because it resembles something entirely not of this world, like a VFX schematic or something equally unreal! "Wat? Timeline? Clips? But how does it become a vid?!" And then somehow....it does. If you have the resolve, it does.
I was lucky enough to witness this whole process recently.
ohvienna had the resolve and now I'm proud to pimp the result. :)
Her vid is wicked strong. Completely unrecognizable as a first vid. (She really made it her bitch!) The cutting is hot, the song is fast and fun, but most important, she never lost sight of the story. There's meaning and layers and, I gotta say it, it's hella deep. HELLA FUN, but hella deep, too. ;)
So if you still haven't had the chance to check it out, I beg you to reconsider. The vid is
Alcohol by
ohvienna. The fandom is Ashes to Ashes, the subject is the ever fascinating Alex Drake, and there's lots of booze! Go watch and be jealous of the mad vidding skillz of these n00bs nowadays. Sheesh, I think it puts my first vid to shame. :/
(Wth. Why isn't there a moodtheme for PROUD? Cuz that's what I am right now. Boohiss.)
