Huh, now that you mention it, that does look like a hot dog bun... it shouldn't be, though-- a cheesesteak should be on a hoagie roll, like the kind you would get a submarine sandwich (hoagie) on. (There's actually a very specific brand of soft Italian hoagie roll that is WAY preferred for a proper cheesesteak.)

There's a ton of debate over what makes an "authentic" cheesesteak, but the basic idea is that it's supposed to be thinly-sliced chopped steak and melted cheese on a hoagie roll. The correct cheese is one of the main sources of debate, but the most popular options are provolone, white American cheese, or Cheez Whiz (spray cheese from a can, haha). I like provolone myself. Then it can also have fried onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, and/or hot peppers. It's very regional-- invented in and VERY strongly tied to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-- and is an Italian-American food.

I hate you so much for posting this and a photo when I'm hungry and have no clue how to obtain one of those things anywhere here.

(Well, in return I bet you can't get kebab pasta over there! I'll go grab some of that for lunch instead. :D)

Aww, Eizo is screaming for a cheesesteak!

But so true, I never even knew kebab pasta was possible. And am suitably jealous, yes. :| Was it good?

Eizo is really hungry, too.

... Unfortunately I have to report that the kebab pasta was a poor implementation of a really good idea. :| I'll have to recreate it myself someday. I'll let you know how that goes!
