Day 7 - Your Favourite AU Fic [The Themes]
Hahaha... Okay, looking at my track record, it probably won't surprise anyone that I'm going to end up with a lot of different fics on today's - the fact that a lot of my favourite fics ever are AUs probably doesn't help much. So including these listed today, I guess all of the other AU fics that I have already posted about and will soon post about also come under this heading (I've had to kind of spread them out and mess around with where I'm posting them so that I didn't stick them all in today's post orz)
Title: We're A Storm In Somebody Else's Tea Cup

Summary: In which Gwen’s passive-aggressive revenge leads to, amongst other things, Merlin making a new friend.
Why?
Okay, don't let the summary fool you into thinking this is one of those calm introspective pieces; this is a multichap full of action, romance and humour with lots of that supernatural/fantasy that usually accompanies Merlinfic. This is a modern day AU where Merlin and Morgana meet at 'a support group for People With Freaky Unnatural Powers', as it says in the fic, and things take off from there as Merlin and his friends have to band together to save Albion/England/the world.

Summary: In which Morgana erases memories for a living, Merlin and Arthur meet for (what they believe to be) the first time, and Gwen remembers everything.
Why?
This one is a fusion fic for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind; I can't comment on how similar or different it is to the film as I haven't seen it yet (though I've been meaning to since Media Studies at college ^^' ) but I can say that this fic has been written wonderfully. It kind of reminds me of a fic from Hetalia fandom that I'll be mentioning the day after tomorrow. It kind of has your emotions all over the place but still has you craving more at the end of each part; it is rather long though (16 parts) so it's probably a good idea to sit down and read it when you have the time to read a lot at once.

Summary: It's not love - it's obsession.
Why?
I absolutely love this little ficlet. Even though the filters at the top of the page on ff.net now tell you who the main characters in a fic are, this one can still keep you guessing as to who's voice it is in. That's all I'm saying or it'll be spoilered, I'm afraid ^^'

Why?
As you may have guessed, this fic has Axel as the Joker and Roxas as a psychiatrist; it's a really interesting one as you get to see how intelligent Roxas is, how manipulative Axel can be, and their steady descent... Whether or not that descent is into madness or something else, you'll find out when you read it ;)
Title: The Smoke of a Distant Fire

Summary: You left me here on your way to paradise. Lord, I was stung, should have seen it coming a long time ago. If things are the same then explain why your kiss is so cold and that mist in your eyes feels like rain on the fire in my soul.
Why?
I absolutely love this one; there's a very melancholic feel about it that stays throughout, and though it doesn't have the usual outcome that most fics featuring Axel and Roxas tend to have it kind of makes you feel vindicated at the end. (Or well, it left me feeling vindicated anyway) Anyway, not your average fic, and definitely worth a read.

Summary: Whoever hires waiters for the graveyard shift is mentally unstable. That's what Roxas thinks. When he meets Axel, that is. (AU)
Why?
I don't think I've read too many fics like this one before; Axel is barely an acquaintance is this one, and yet the impact of his actions on the reader (and Roxas) are huge. The banter between Axel and Roxas is funny, as you'd expect it to be, but the fic turns serious in a way that kind of feels like a punch to the gut even though by that point you're half expecting it.

Summary: By several strange twists of fate, Kiku Honda becomes one of the proprietors of a Kabukicho host club, with Heracles Karpusi as his number one host. As something like love develops between the two, Kiku has to face the fact that desires, dreams, and hopes are something that inevitably make up every person, including himself.
Why?
I don't tend to read a lot of fic with this sort of premise, but I'm definitely glad I read this one! It's a pretty serious piece told mainly from Kiku's point of view, and you really feel for him as he realises his feelings and the implications they could have on the business. Really well thought out, and really well executed.

Prompt: I absolutely need a fic (or even an epic!fic - I actually like lengthy ones) in a dystopian society type setting. Think 1984, or perhaps even V for Vendetta.
What's this world like? What are the character's jobs? How do they interact within this context? Does the regime/government get overthrown? Is there a tragic or happy ending, or something that's neither?
Following the usual lines of this kind of thing, there are probably restrictions on the kind of relationships individuals have, that would seem ridiculous in a rational world. Anons can play with this whatever way they want, but ah, I'm rather partial to slash and femmeslash.
TL;DR: Fanfic set in a dystopian society, bonus points for "love in a bad situation" type thing, anon admits to liking that one irritating prevailing pairing in the meme (you know what I mean), I'd love to see where a writer!anon takes it.

Now this is what you call an epic length fic! It's at 263 parts at the moment (bearing in mind that it's on a kinkmeme so each part potentially goes up to the character limit of each), and is still ongoing though there haven't been any updates since December. Break The Sky is pretty legendary on the Phoenix Wright Kinkmeme, and with good reason! It sticks to the prompt wonderfully and paints a picture of a world that is both typical of what you'd expect of a dystopian AU, but still completely unique.
There's angst, romance, longing and a tiny little bit of humour to combine to give a really dramatic fic that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It looks like a lot of parts, and it is, but you get so sucked into the plot that you don't notice how fast you get through them all, so don't let the size daunt you!
