So, first things first, here's today's theme... *drumroll~*
Day 6 - Your Favourite Canon Fic [
The Themes]
I kind of have a distinction between 'canon' and 'canonverse' and can't be bothered to differentiate the two so that they have different posts or whatever, so you get both here =) I tend to think of 'canon' as following the original plot of the book/anime/manga/show/etc. 'Canonverse' tends to be in the universe of the book/anime/manga/show/etc. (rather than an Alternate Universe or AU) but things don't necessarily pan out the same way as they do in 'canon'.
Anyway, without much further ado~
Title:
Fairy Tale Author:
Fuji Yuuta-kunFandom: Axis Powers Hetalia
Rating: T
Summary: He had been alright with the fact that he had been a replacement for America, but he sometimes had wished Arthur saw him as something other then a colony. That was Hong Kong's only wish as he left England and returned back to China. UK HK, past US UK.
Why?
This is a historical look at how England acquired Hong Kong, and the fic spans the time that he took Hong Kong from China until 1997 when he was returned; I really like the way the relationships are shown in this one, and I tend to prefer England/Hong Kong to China/Hong Kong so Hong Kong's feelings when he's returned to China really struck a chord with me (and kind of stuck in my headcanon).
Title:
If Loyalties Lie Author:
ghostofthemotif and
qualapec Fandom: Axis Powers Hetalia
Rating: T
Summary: There is no mistake more final than a wrongful death sentence, no lie worth the loss of a friend.
Why?
Okay, this one definitely isn't what one would call light hearted, and it looks at the complex relationship between France, England and Prussia. As the title may suggest, it has very much to do with where one places their loyalty - and, more importantly, conflicting loyalties.
Title:
Return to Sender Author:
Miiko AshidaFandom: Nabari No Ou
Rating: K
Summary: Raimei receives a series of unsigned birthday cards with no return address. The funny thing is, they never seem to come through the mail.
Why?
I don't tend to read a lot of Nabari No Ou fic (most of it tends to be Miharu/Yoite, which I do like but a lot of it feels very similar...), and I can't remember how I came across this one, but I absolutely love it. I don't want to give anything away, but this is a great look at Raimei.
These next two are more 'canonverse' than actual 'canon' ^^'
Title:
Necromancer Author:
V-chan2k6Fandom: Naruto
Rating: T
Summary: Uchiha Sasuke was holding on to something. In one chance encounter, she brought it back to life.
Why?
Now this is from an old fandom of mine, but I still love reading it despite the fact that I'm not that into Naruto anymore; as it says above, this is set in the 'canon' universe but things turn out a little differently. It's set during the chuunin exams, and Sasuke and Tenten end up doing extra training together (not that sort you pervs! XD) and kind of get to know each other - and become as close to being friends as Sasuke ever gets. It's a really unique look at a 'what if' scenario and I think it's been handled really well; everyone feels very in character, and this is another one with a couple of threads to the story. We've got the separate goings on of Team 7 and Team Gai, Sasuke and Tenten's training and Friendship, Sasuke learning to control his curse seal with Kakashi and Tenten and Neji's extra training too... And then the end is just perfect. So go read it!
Title:
Here Comes The Candle Author:
mizumimi Fandom: Axis Powers Hetalia
Rating: T
Summary: You only realise what you have when it's gone. Due to financial difficulties England becomes the 51st state of America but he's not happy and America has no idea how to make things right. Between the need for forgiveness and the search for happiness the irreparable happens
Why?
This is the two-shot I was talking about the other day; it's another angsty one from England's POV, though there is
another part that follows in America's perspective. The reoccuring theme of the nursery rhyme Oranges and Lemons makes the impact of the fic much greater, I think, and watching England slowly crumble and then come to acceptance is fascinating (if, perhaps, a little morbid).
In other news..!
Apparenly, I write like a man.
XD
I suppose that shouldn't be too hard to believe if you know me well, but it has been proven by
this site! I put in a lot of different pieces of writing, fic and journal entries, and only came up with one entry as written by a female which is a really old one from 2008 that I dug up from dArt XD
Another interesting one is:
I write like
Douglas AdamsI Write Like by Mémoires,
journal software.
Analyze your writing! This is the one that came up most frequently, anyway. I also got H.P.Lovecraft, Cory Doctorow and James Joyce, but I think Douglas Adams came up three or four times =)
