Morning

I woke up at 9:00 to the comforting sound of someone else mowing their lawn two houses away. I miss that sound--someone else diligently cutting grass. And the smells! The Gap once tried to market "grass" body spray, and I tried it, thinking it might just smell as fabulous as the freshly cut kind, but no dice, of course. But it's funny, because that one person mowing their lawn convinced about eight other people to mow their lawns, too, and now the little neighborhood I live in is buzzing with the sounds of multiple mowers and edgers and other cutting-type implements I know nothing of, being a first-time homebuyer. Which reminds me, we need to buy a lawn mower. Crap! Those are expensive. Meanwhile our grass keeps getting longer. I wonder how long it will take the homeowner's association to get on us about that? We don't seem to have a very strict association. Someone else five houses down has a funky-colored house.

It's so beautiful outside this morning, and I know it won't be like this all of the time, but right now I'm enjoying it. I should make coffee, but instead I'm sitting on the futon with the overhead fan going and the sliding glass door open listening to all of these sounds and sort of watching Levi and Flurry clean their feet. It's still a bit dewy out there and we have a bit of a sand pit from the area where the "pond" (that over-filled, under-sunk, black, plastic tub that was out back) used to be. We should get some sod.

I'm sorry about the lack of house pictures. I have to clean, now, before I take some more. The shedding is out of control, even though I've brushed both dogs furiously. The dogs are acclimating. And when I say "out of control" I mean out of control. Tumbleweeds everywhere. They just float in the breeze, find a temporary spot in some corner or underneath some piece of furniture, and for seemingly no reason whatsoever, they take flight once more only to find another unsatisfactory spot about ten minutes later. When they land they only move again.
