Sitting high in the branches of an ancient tree, Ezra fiddled idly with the hem of his dirty grey shirt. Waiting, he decided, was the worst. But it was this or come along as Aram slaughtered their pursuers, and as Ezra would likely just hinder the other man, in the end he didn't have much of a choice but to sit there.
That didn't change the fact that waiting sucked, though.
You know, he thought, standing up on the bough and peeking through the foliage for any sign of his friend, Aram's a capable guy. No way he hasn't gotten to those idiots yet. He's probably just taking his time, doing some weird Tiamanti thing like eating the eyes of his victims or taking their teeth for necklaces and praying to the Goddess or something. Seeing no one coming, he lowered himself carefully on to the ground. (And somehow managed to end up on his ass anyhow. Climbing trees wasn't something water creatures were talented with. He dusted himself off vainly, rather glad that no one had seen that.)
There was a pond nearby, he could smell it. He'd just sneak over there and jump in for a while until Aram came back. It was safer in water after all, he was nigh on unless in this form, if he was caught like this he didn't stand a chance. But in that pond, he'd be fine. With this reasoning in mind leaving his designated hiding spot didn't seem like a problem at all, in fact it seemed down right logical. And so without a care in the world Ezra jumped right in, changing form and enjoying the refreshing sensation of being submersed.
An hour later Ezra let himself float lazily to the surface. Barely had he done this when he felt something-plink-bounce off his head into the water. He swung around immediately, hissing--and there was Aram, back from his mission, as hardfaced as ever.
"I've been looking for you, idiot."
Spitting childishly at Aram in response, Ezra dived back down.

--else is in here... Ah. What did I do? This book is like a communicator? Then what happened to my other-- oh, not agaaaaain.
[Whiiiiine. Someone just pieced together what happened, and doesn't sound too happy about it.]
I bet that's what that stupid letter said, too.
"Dear Ezra. We decided to kidnap you again, because we hate you and kidnapping you once isn't good enough. This time you aren't allowed a bath tub, but you can have this book even though you hate books and writing and reading and the writing is too messy for you to read. We really don't care, we're just trying to ruin your life even more than it already was.
Try not to die again (but if you do we don't care,) Love, Whoever Kidnapped Me This Time."
We like your application, but the Previous Game Developments section requires further detail. Please submit extended information about the premise of vertiline_rpg as well as Ezra's stay there. Waking up in a foreign building full of unknown technology? A bit jarring, but nothing out of the ordinary. Finding out that said building is actually in a completely different world from your own, there's no way to get back, and you're supposed to fight monsters for the people who brought you? Yeah, that's something different. There was little comfort and consistency in Ezra's life besides his single friend, Aram, and he didn't take well to being separated from him. Together with being stuck in his humanoid form as a biproduct of being summoned to Vertiline, this made for a rather miserable Ezra.
But he'd had experience with being forced out of his comfort zone before, and he knew that the only thing he could do was make the best of his situation and wait. So he did. Vertiline wasn't so different from his home, really--he was stopped from properly roaming by the fog, but otherwise, rivers, trees, friendly things and things that wanted to kill him, those are the same where ever you go, right? He spent most of his time in the river where he felt safest, learned how to read and how to use some basic human technology, and actually made friends, something that he had honestly never been good at. By the time he gained the ability to shapeshift back, he had grown used to the idea of being stuck here, and was maybe even okay with it.
And then he died, and that was not okay. It showed him just how fragile his life was, and how careless he had been. Since then, he's been a lot more wary. After all, who knew if he'd still be revived if it happened again? That said, he's still the same antagonistic jerk, he just makes sure to keep his distance now, at least, when he doesn't forget. Which he does. A lot. Bad habits run deep, they take a lot of time to fix.

[Another whine.]
This is stupid and I want to go home.
