11. Writing sample - Third Person Prose:

Abeni waited behind the crumbled ledge, taking care to keep herself out of sight but still able to view the spectacle in the street below. The man she saw was evidently new, lost and confused as he stumbled his way through the danger ridden streets in search of... whatever. Hope, she decided, which was rare in a newcomer to a place like Deadworld. The criminals that usually got thrown into the game were the scum of the world, long given up on anything good and seeking only to win.

Where normally she would wait, hide from those around her and blend in with the surroundings until the immediate danger had passed before moving on, there was something different about this man. He did not seem a killer, unlike the bulk of the twisted minds that lurked within the walls of their current prison. He would not thrive on the game they were forced to play, at least not yet. Abeni could only conclude that the man she watched was alike to herself, at least to some degree. It was enough for her to take a chance and remain in place, eager to watch just a little more and perhaps, if he proved himself worthy, approach.

The time to think was cut short, the shadows from the other side of the street shifting with movement. From her place at the ledge, Abeni could see the thug crawling from the dark, a crude, silver blade in his hand. His target was the same as hers. The newcomer, her chance for an ally. If she could save him, talk to him, then perhaps Abeni could regain a hint of security in this place.

Movement careful and quiet, she moved from her hiding place and, keeping to the back of both the thug and the man he intended to kill. The gun in her hands was heavy, and yet familiar and comforting. She could shoot the thug, but the sound of gunfire would only draw more and ruin her chance to approach the new arrival. If he were to flee, Abeni would have to take him down before he gave her location away.

Her approach was silent, footsteps carefully placed to match the steps of the thug. By the time both men realized she was there, Abeni had her gun raised to beat the attacker across the head with the butt of the weapon. The crack was near sickening, the thugs nose evidently broken by the blow and a spray of crimson flowed as his head snapped with the impact. Before he could regain composure, Abeni knocked him to the ground, the gun in her hand turning with expert ease that she might aim the barrel at his head. Finger on the trigger and ready to fire, she realized that the attacker was already choking on his own blood.

There was nothing she would do to prevent that. Her cold gaze turned to the man she'd saved.

"Get up," Abeni ordered. "If you want to survive this, come with me. Do as I say, keep your head down and stay quiet. If you so much as think about attacking me, know that I can and will kill you."

While small in stature in comparison, Abeni still commanded attention. She was not one to be messed with. When the man still living gave a shaky nod, the woman nodded in return. Relieved as she was, she would not show it. "Wise choice. Now move it."

12. Writing sample - First Person:
I've always been reckless. Blame the fucked up start that I had but I never really learned about taking risks. I see what I want and I go for it. Not a damn thing is gonna stop me.

Except for that one time, when things didn't go to plan. The reason why I'm still alive is that I'm good at reading people and I'm thorough. I pay attention to all the crap that people miss.

Call it habit, but I'm always looking for what I can use. If it's not gonna aid me in some way, I'm not interested.

[She makes a frustrated sound and throws down the quill.]

Why am I even writing this shit. I'm done with this.

13. Tattoo: Around her right thigh.
