NEFANX-Corin
NEFANX in Boston was awesome. I met Gareth David-Lloyd, Corin Nemec and John deLancie. I had Dinner with 8 con attendees and Corin Nemec. At breakfast, while I didn't sit with any celebs, Corin did stop at every table and talked to everyone.
Friday night, I met Therese while reading a Torchwood book in the lobby while waiting to register. She'd come alone as well, to see Gareth. When we ended up in line, the diversity of people was wild. There were people there for the Ghosthunter guy, the Trekkies for Nimoy and DeLancie, the Torchwood peeps for GDL, the Stargate people for Corin plus a bunch of Anime people that I didn't know. I ended up meeting Laura while sitting on a couch in the lobby. While we were talking, Corin went by in these Army style pants, camo pants but in gray and my head completely swiveled. Very much hotness. Laura was there for the Ghosthunter guy but she knew Corin from Stargate. We spent quite a few minutes glancing in his direction admiringly!
On Saturday, I saw Corin Nemec's panel at 11 and he was charming and funny. He teased somebody about getting up and leaving and the guy said "I'm just getting water" but he ended up leaving. (this is referenced in his panel the next day when someone gets up and says he's getting water and Corin joked - I'm watching you, I heard that one before!) He plugged his web series Star-ving that he does with David Faustino. Seriously twisted humor. I didn't watch any until I got home and I think its funny but as he said in his panel "there's stuff I can't believe I did but the rule was if all four writers laughed at an idea, then it stayed in". I don't remember all of this panel because at this point he was just ' that jonas quinn guy i'd seen in an episode or two of stargate'. After the panel I got in the autograph line. When I met Corin, I told him I had to get the autograph ticket after seeing him walk across the lobby the night before in 'those pants'. He laughed and I think he said something like 'well that's why I got them.'
Later that night we had dinner with the celebs and like I said, Therese, Laura and I sat with Corin. He was AWESOME. He was a really interesting, real person. I even made a reference about certain parts just being a paycheck. He defended his choices fairly righteously, or at least the specific movie that someone at the table asked. Then I mentioned while we were in the line for the buffet the fact that John Barrowman was in a movie so bad a line he was asked to make up to get a reaction out of the actress was kept in the movie! He asked what the line was and I told him after warning him it was R rated. I think his interest was genuine and that really surprised me. The next day we ran into Corin outside when Laura went out for a smoke. We had another lovely chat and I think it was then that I was completely converted to the 'Corin Nemec Fan Club.'
Sunday went by so quickly but the highlight was Corin's panel where there was a lot of joking and the Corin groupies now - me Laura and Therese, in the front row. He retold a story from the night before (at my prompting) about a homeless guy was the only person that recognized him during his walk around Boston. Before the panel, I decided to get a photo op with Corin as did Laura.First was Laura's when Corin wrapped his leg around her. Then was mine where he hugged me. Later Corin signed my photo-op with him and its tagline reads "Cuddles are for Winners".
Seriously it was an awesome Con experience made all the more wonderful by new friends and a star who was really a *Star*. When I emailed him through Myspace, he even replied! How cool is that?
