Welcome back to chapter six of my Creation to Future challenge story based off of JoandSarah's Creation to Future Challenge.
Rules can be found here:
desirablediscourses.proboards.com/index.cgi As a warning that this chapter contains some mild language, adult themes and nudity.
Since this started as a challenge story I decided to bring you up to date on where I actually am in the challenge.
When Caine maxed out his Creativity the challenge entered a revised type of 'medieval' era.
Caine, with his 10 creativity skill points, invents all sorts of games and creative outlets like chess, darts, percussion instruments, etc. Anything that isn't plastic or that requires electricity.
Masonry is now an acceptable building method, and Sims clothing may also reflect this medieval type of lifestyle.
With creativity unlocked, Sims may now open community shops. Taverns, Tailors and Grocers may sell their wares to the public.
Jo and Karima's Seamstress shop is one such shop.
Until they opened their shop, the Sims of this town were still wearing animal furs and undecorated, unfitted clothes.
Karima and Jo helped the town folks see beyond their fashion blunders.
Soon, everyone was coming to buy their clothes from Jo and Karima's seamstress shop.
They also offered free makeovers to anyone willing to shed their ugly Maxis hairdos. Doesn't Goopy look so much better?
Although Jo and Karima earn business perks and talent badges their achievements do not count towards the challenge. Only those related by blood to Adam and Eve, the founders of this challenge, can lift restrictions.
Caine has opened a Grocery, selling produce and fish from the Creation land. Now that it is up and running, other households may buy groceries and don’t have to live off the land. When the shop reaches level 10, Caine may sell it back to the neighborhood.
Well that is pretty much where I am in this challenge. There are BIG changes to the lots, clothing, etc. in this chapter. I have really spent a great deal of time collecting the CC and building real looking lots for this story. Not all the townies have been made over yet, so don't judge me too hard if it doesn't look perfect. I'm working on it.
So without further ado. Chapter Six! I hope you all enjoy reading!

Tristan walked into the clearing and headed toward the pond. He had been traveling all day with no rest. He could almost taste the cold water on his lips. He walked slowly and with purpose, his demeanor not matching the urgency he felt. She was not that far behind him. She never was. She would be here soon.
She had been hunting him for months. Ever since he decided to defy her and leave, she had been hunting him.
When she caught up to him she would ask him to return with her, plead for him to make the right choice, not to throw his life away, not to turn his back on his talent.
Tristan scoffed.
‘Talent. What talent?' It was more of a curse.
He always refused her. He looked forward to the day her patience would wear out and she would be done with him. So far he had not been so lucky.
As he bent down to fill his water jug, he saw some fish swimming in the pond. His stomach ached. He couldn't remember the last decent meal he’d had.
She hadn't always found his talent useful.
Growing up she thought it weak. What good was influence when you couldn't make it rain frogs or turn someone into a chicken? Where her talent was more practical magic; spells, potions and incantations, his gift was more subtle.
‘Gift! That word was worse.’
What good was his "gift" if he was helpless at the most important time, when he really needed it.
His gift couldn't stop her from murdering. His gift couldn't stop her from killing Cordelia, the woman he loved.
He was taught to use his magic to get, never to give. He was taught wrong. Cordelia showed him how to positively influence the world. To heal rather than hurt. To love rather than hate. He had had many women, but he had never loved, until Cordelia.
He sensed her moments before she appeared. She looked so different.
The evil deeds she’d performed, the murders she committed, consumed her. The beautiful, yet cruel woman he remembered from his childhood no longer existed. The chestnut brown hair now limp and grey. The alabaster skin now bumpy green flesh. The evil oozed out of her in the form of a putrid green cloud. She was no longer his mother, she was a hag. A hag consumed with greed and power.
"Hello Son."
"What do you want Hag?"
That got her! He could sense the anger, the rage. He decided to heighten those emotions. Maybe he could get her to lose control and finally be done with this.
Enid realized what her son was doing. Living with a warlock who could control the emotions of others and influence them to do his bidding was dangerous. She had always downplayed Tristan’s power, made him think himself weak. She had taken precautions and learned to block his influence. Enid’s anger and rage were hard to control, but she needed to stay calm because she wanted him alive.
She wasn't above hurting him, how better to educate a stubborn child, but she didn't want to if she didn't have to. She had successfully emasculated the boy, but the man was dangerous. Especially after that Bitch gave him his confidence back. Well, she took care of her.
She would give Tristan one more chance to come home with her. If he refused, which in his present state of mind was most likely, she would move on to plan B. The child cannot be born if the girl was dead. Then she would tell her son that he was responsible for the death of two women. No more than he deserves after the Hag remark. Then maybe he would see reason and return with her and do her bidding.
"Tristan, why do you continue to run? Why do you choose to live like this? You are so much better than all these people. You’re a Prince among these peasants. Come home with me and marry Bridget."
"I will not marry Bridget! And I will not return with you. I will run until I can't run anymore, or until you finally decide to kill me like you killed Cordelia."
As her anger grew stronger, Enid was tempted to do just that. Her momentary lack of concentration caused an outburst she was sure to regret.
"Are you still angry about that whore, Son? She was a simple distraction. You have had many women, why was she so important?"
"Because I loved her, you Hex! I am done having this conversation with you. For the last time, and I mean it, I will not return with you, I will not marry Bridget and I will not stop hating you for what you did."
As the sun set in the sky Tristan turned his back on his Mother and walked back into the forest.
"You'll regret that decision, my son."
He could only hope she would finally give up and end him. Unfortunately, as he continued to walk away, he knew he hadn't heard or seen the last of her. He wasn't lying to her, he would never return. It was up to her now to decide what she wanted to do.
What he needed to do was to find somewhere to lodge for the night. Maybe the tavern he saw a couple miles back would have a room for him to stay and a decent meal for him to eat.
As Tristan walked away Enid formulated her plan.
The prophecy was clear. The child would be the end of her. Enid was determined to stop that from happening.
She had tried to nullify the prophecy by having Tristan marry Bridget. Everything was going according to plan until Tristan met that Witch!
Enid had spent a lifetime molding Tristan into a weak and subservient son, using his power to further her goals. Then Cordelia ruined it ALL! They had run away together, but she had found them. Then she killed the bitch in front of Tristan. She had hoped that would break his spirit once and for all, but all it did was make him even more determined to defy her.
"Stupid Fool!"
She would never admit it, but she was a bit scared. Tristan was getting very close to the girl foretold of by the prophesy. She was sure they would meet soon. It was like he was being lead here by some kind of force.
"So be it." she said. 'Let them meet' she thought. 'Let them fall in love.' Then she would strike!
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
The Creation family gathered for the wedding of Abel and Marsha almost a year after the big Storm sweep through town.
Their wedding day was dramatically different from that day. The sky was a perfect blue without a cloud in sight. Birds called and the waves breaking on the beach behind their home hit the sand with a crash like celebratory cymbals.
It was the perfect day for a wedding.
The two friends, who had meet so long ago, joined hands and pledged their love to one another. The differences they encountered earlier in their relationship were forgotten as the stood in front of Abel's family and recited their promises to each other.
They promised that like a stone their love would be firm. Like a star their love would be constant. They promised to let the powers of their minds and of their intellect guide their marriage, to let the strength of their wills bind them together. To let the power of love and desire make them happy, and the strength of their dedication make them inseparable. To possess one another, yet be understanding. Have patience with one another, for storms will come, but they will pass quickly. And to be free in giving affection and warmth.
All this they promised each other, and more, as they kissed for the first time as husband and wife.
It was a day of celebration. There was no thought of the lurking danger, no thought given to the visions Ivah had seen.
After the ceremony Adam and Eve welcomed their new daughter into the family. Meadow hugged Marsha, happy that she had gained not only a new sister but a friend. Although the two girls were opposites. Meadow was more demure where Marsha knew what she wanted and went after it. Despite their difference their friendship grew quickly.
"Come on out Baby! Your Mommy is ready to meet you." Marsha said as she longingly rubbed Meadow’s swollen abdomen, dreaming of the family she hoped she and Abel would soon make together. "So is your Auntie Marsha!" she said laughingly.
After the wedding party, Abel took his bride to their bed. Marsha had been staying with his family since she had won his heart in the Bachelor challenge but would not come to his bed. She would not come to his bed until they were married and would not marry him until their house was finished. He had tried to convince her that they were already bound to each other spiritually, why not be joined physically as well. Marsha wouldn't hear it.
"You have no excuses left, Wife." Abel said playfully as he kissed Marsha's mouth, gently pushing her down onto the bed and pulling the skirt of her dress up towards her thighs.
"I don't make excuses, Husband, I give reasons." she countered as she ran her hands down Abel's muscular back and pulled his shirt over his head.
This playful banter was the tone of Abel's pursuit the past several months. Now the house was finished and they were married. Tonight they would have some fun.
Abel finally managed to remove Marsha's dress only to find another garment blocking him from her skin.
"How many layers of clothing are you wearing, Wife?" Abel teased as he tugged on the flimsy chemise.
Marsha giggled and pulled Abel back down to her.
Shortly there was nothing between the two lovers. Skin on skin, the giggles and teases turned into soft moans and pleads. The passion they felt overpowered them both as their needs and desires were fulfilled. Each eagerly willing to bring the other the same pleasure they were experiencing. The love they gave each other was unselfish and beautiful.
After a night of love making, the newlyweds, physically satiated, fell asleep in each others arms as the sun rose in the eastern sky.
______________________________________________________________________________________
The next morning Tristan came down from his room to have breakfast in the Tavern's restaurant. The room was much different during the day. The sun filtered through the windows giving testament to another beautiful autumn day. The floors, table and bars had been scrubbed clean of the nights festivities. Someone took pride in this place it showed in how well it was taken care of.
Tristan noticed several people still lingering at the card table since the night before. He could sense the feeling of exhaustion and the semi conscious state of over-indulgence flowing from them. He was surprised the owner of the tavern hadn't stopped the game hours ago.
There were other people in the restaurant as well, but Tristan paid them no mind. He needed to figure out what he was going to do next.
He would have liked to stay in town longer. Everyone he had meet the night before was very welcoming. Especially the barmaid, Matilda, whose conversation and playful flirting had tempted him to find momentary comfort in her arms.
In earlier years he would have jumped at the chance. He was a “love them and leave them” type of guy. He had used his power of influence to bed many women and to quell the inevitable complications of jealous boyfriends and husbands. All that changed when he meet Cordelia.
A black cloud feel over his thoughts as he recalled the way she had called out his name, begging him to help her.
His anger grew as he remembered how helpless he had been as his mother tortured her until Cordelia's body lay lifeless before his feet. He felt rage as he relived the guilt and impotence he felt in the aftermath of such evil.
Tristan shook himself out of his mood. Rarely did he lose control of his emotions where it could negatively affect others. He slowly reeled in his feelings when he saw it was too late. Two men at the front of the bar were quarreling. Normally he would have left the bar, letting the scene play out itself. But he knew that wasn't the right thing to do. He could, and he would, stop the encounter from turning violent and potentially damaging the tavern or hurting those around them.
Tristan sensed anger and a sense of entitlement from the dark haired man, whose speech was becoming more coarse, his body language more hostile. He believed the other had cheated in the card game they were playing and wanted his money back.
It was lucky for Tristan that he sensed nothing devious or underhanded from the red headed man. That man was trying his best to handle the situation calmly and diffuse the potential violence. From his thoughts, Tristan gathered the red-haired man was the owner. He didn't want his Tavern damaged or any of his patrons hurt.
'Well, I can help with that' he thought as he got up and approached the two men.
________________________________________________________________________________________
"Congratulations on your son’s marriage, Adam. I'm sure his absence is a symptom of his wedding night festivities." Sawyer said with a playful smirk. He couldn't understand why anyone would settle for just one woman. Of course not all women were as understanding as his Tina and Jill.
"Thank You. Yes, I sent Seth over there this morning to see if he was awake and wanted to join us. Seth said Abel threatened his life if he didn't get out of his house. I guess the Honeymoon isn't over yet." Adam said with a chuckle.
Caine laughed remembering he had also made similar threats to his younger brother the morning after his wedding night. Seth had walked into their room to ask him if he wanted to go hiking while he and Meadow were...busy.
"I don't blame him. I didn't want to get out of bed either this morning." Sawyer said with a gleam in his eye.
They all laughed sharing in the male camaraderie of the moment.
"How is your family Sawyer? Adam asked. "Have there been any more sightings in your area?"
"We're fine. We haven't seen anything since the night Tina chased it off with a rake." Sawyer replied. His heart filling with pride as he remembered the way a VERY pregnant Tina had run after the beast, protecting his sons Jack and James as they played. "A farmer towards the end of town lost many of his livestock though. His description of the animal is consistent with the other sightings. He said it was a mix between man and a wolf that walked on it's hind legs."
We have been very lucky no one has been killed." Adam replied.
Sawyer nodded and turned his attention to Caine. "The new masonry techniques you showed everyone have helped a lot. Many families have built walls around their dwellings, similar to the way your family has."
"It was very generous of King George to finance some of the less fortunate families rebuilds." Caine added. "The storm really damaged their homes the worst."
Adam's attention was pulled towards the bar. The owner of the Tavern, Komei was about to be attacked by Craig, a villager who had obviously had too much to drink. Just as the Adam was about to intercede, he noticed a stranger approach the two men. Something told him to wait and see what happened next.
Tristan cast calm vibrations as he approached the two men.
"Excuse me!"
Both men momentarily turned their attention towards Tristan."This doesn't concern you Stranger." The dark haired man spit.
"I know. I'm sorry to interrupt your conversation, but I wanted to extend my compliments to the Tavern owner before I left. The barmaid said that was you." he said turning his attention towards Komei.
"Yes. I'm Komei. I own this tavern. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay." Komei was proud of his tavern and was always happy to hear someone had enjoyed their time spent there. He was slightly embarrassed that this stranger had to see this misunderstanding. Komei was a good man, but sometimes lost himself in these new card games. He knew he should have ended it hours ago when this encounter could have been avoided. He was sure to be in trouble with his wife for not going home last night. The last thing he needed was to have to explain a black eye or a bruised rib, both likely outcomes to a brawl with Craig.
"Oh, I did!" Tristan said. "I have been in a lot Taverns and this is one of the better ones for sure. I'm sure your very proud of it."
Tristan continued his conversation with Komei, giving Craig, the dark haired man time to calm down.
Craig calmed down considerably as Komei spoke with the stranger. He couldn't understand why he was so angry. He always lost his temper when he drank to much. What he needed was a good meal and a warm bed. First he would apologize to his friend. "Komei."
Komei and Tristan stopped their conversation and turned their attention to Craig.
"I'm sorry. I obviously had way too much to drink last night. I know you would never cheat anyone."
Tristan smiled. He had hoped the man, Craig, would calm down enough to see reason. He replaced the calming effect with one of elation and happiness. He would give Craig a good start to his day.
"It's partly my fault Craig. Komei answered. "I should have stopped the game and kicked your butt out hours ago." He said jokingly.
The men shared a laugh and embraced, all bad feelings forgotten.
Craig felt great! He sure didn't feel as though he had stayed up all night over-indulging. Maybe he would look for that barmaid that was flirting with him last night. Maybe she would welcome him into her bed.
"I haven't seen you around here before. I'm Craig."
Tristan extended his hand. "Tristan. Nice to meet you."
"Well Tristan, enjoy your stay. I'm going to go look for Matilda" he said with a gleam in his eye. "Maybe I'll see you again some time."
______________________________________________________________________________________
"Where you going Dad?" Caine asked as Adam got up from the table.
"I'll be right back." he answered and walked towards Tristan who had returned to the bar.
"I guess the meeting's over. You want to play chess Sawyer?" Caine asked.
"I would love too, but Tina is going to deliver any day now. I don't want to leave them alone too long with the creature still around."
"It was good to see you again. Bring everyone over soon. It will be good practice for Meadow and I." Caine said as Sawyer left the table.
"We'll do that!" Sawyer said over his shoulder as he walked towards the door.
Adam approached the bar and sat next to Tristan .
"Thanks for helping out Komei. Who knows what would have happened if you hadn't stepped in."
Tristan jumped when Adam started to talk. Normally he could sense people before they approached but Adam had caught him off guard. Now that he was closer to him all he was getting from Adam was vague feelings. This was new to Tristan. Even his mother, who had learned to block his influence gave off fragmented thoughts. She also couldn't hide her emotions from him. He always knew what she was feeling.
"Uh, I didn't really do anything, but I’m glad they decided they both had too much drink and worked things out."
"I'm Adam. I don't think I've seen you before. Are you new to town?"
"I'm Tristan. Actually i'm only passing through. I'm going to leave after I have breakfast."
The only explanation he could think of was that this man, Adam, had some sort of power, but he sensed nothing of it.
"Komei is a great guy, but his eggs are runny and he always burns the bread." Adam said chuckling. "Why don't you come to my house. My daughter in law makes the best omelettes."
Adam surprised himself. He had just invited a complete stranger to his home. He wasn't sure why, but he wanted to know more about the man.
Tristan was just as curious about Adam. "I do love omelettes." he said and got up from the bar and followed Adam towards the door.
"Caine, this is Tristan. I was just telling him about Meadow's omelettes and he thought that sounded a lot better than Komei's runny eggs." Adam said laughingly. "Do you think she'd make one for him?"
"Sure." Caine was kind of surprised that Adam was inviting a total stranger to their home, but his father was an excellent judge of character so he didn't protest. "I'm Caine" he said as he stuck his hand out to the man.
"Tristan, it's nice to meet you." Tristan said as he shook Caine's hand. Whatever it was that was blocking him from reading Adam's mind, the son Caine, didn't have it. Tristan could sense Caine's hesitation and didn't blame him. "I don't want to be a bother. I can just eat here. I've had worse, I'm sure."
"Oh, it's no problem. Meadows loves to cook for other people." Caine assured him.
__________________________________________________________________
"Stupid grubs." Ivah exclaimed as she pulled the ugly worms off the leaves of her tomatoes.
Now that Caine had opened the grocery store, the family decided to increase the size of their garden, which meant more work for her. She had extra today because her brother Seth skipped out on his chores. Who knew where he was.
Ivah didn't mind the extra work. She liked the outdoors. She especially liked working in the garden. Just don't ask her to go fishing. What a dull activity that was!
She was so involved in killing the pests that threatened her precious tomatoes that she didn't notice her father and Caine returning with the man.
The men entered the common area of the house. Caine immediately headed towards Meadow, happy he was home. He didn't like to leave her for too long.
Adam took Tristan over to meet his wife.
"Eve, this is Tristan. He's new to town. I saved him from Komei's runny eggs." Adam joked to his wife.
"Your a lucky man Tristan!" Eve replied as she got up to shake Tristan's hand. "I'm sure we can find something better than runny eggs for you here."
"Thank you." Tristan answered admiring how gracious Eve was being despite the apprehension she felt towards him. She had the utmost confidence in her husbands judgment and if Adam approved of the stranger she would be courteous.
Tristan's attention was drawn towards Caine who greeted a pretty, very pregnant, young woman.
He tried to ignore the bout jealously he felt as Caine lovingly rubbed her swollen belly. These two were obviously very much in love. Jealousy turned to embarrassment as Tristan saw images of the two sharing a private moment earlier in the day.
Caine brought Meadow over to meet Tristan.
"This must be Meadow, the famous omelet maker." Tristan joked, trying to mask his guilt over invading the couple's privacy.
"Pleased to meet you." she said, her voice almost a whisper. "I'd be happy to make you an omelet if you'd like."
"Yes, thank you, that would be great!" Tristan said as his stomach growled in anticipation of the homemade meal.
"Those damn Grubs are all over the tomatoes again Mom!" Ivah shouted into the room as she entered the house. She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the man sitting next to her father.
"I'll make some more brew for them a bit later Ivah. Eve answered. "How much should I make?" she asked.
When her daughter didn't answer Eve looked up from her cleaning and watched as Ivah made her way towards the man.
Adam saw Ivah walking towards them and got up to introduce his daughter to their guest.
"Ivah, this is..."
"Tristan!" she said as if her life depended on it.
It was the second time that day that Tristan had been caught off guard. It wasn't that he couldn't read Ivah's mind, it was open to him freely, like she knew he would look. The images were difficult to see and completely unbelievable to him. He wasn't sure if she planted them or if they were real. He could sense her power, but didn't know what gift she possessed.
The whole room remained quiet as Ivah and Tristan continued to stare at each other.
"You have a gift?" he asked her, already knowing the answer.
"Yes", as do you." she said smiling at him like he was her savior, like he had just slayed a fucking dragon.
He fought for control of his emotions as she bombarded his mind with images.
"I don't believe the things you are showing me" he said nervously. "They can't happen."
"They will." she said.
"Not all visions and prophecies come true." he said growing increasingly agitated.
"Mine do." she breathed.
The duo didn't notice, but the whole room had become quiet. They did not understand what was happening. Everyone in the room knew about Ivah's "gift" but they did not know how this stranger was aware.
Adam and Caine were particularly concerned.
Ivah had been waiting two years for this moment. She had begun to dream about Tristan when she was 16 years old.
She had first seen him in a forest with a beautiful woman. Ivah placed that picture in her head and continued to display all the things she had seen.
Tristan couldn't believe it.
"Stop it!" he said and closed his mind to the young girl.
"What is going on here?" Adam asked. He had watched the bizarre exchange and was growing increasingly uncomfortable with the way his daughter was looking at Tristan.
Adam grew impatient when neither of them answered his question.
"Eve, please take Ivah to her room. She's not to come down until I find out what's going on."
Eve dragged her daughter out of the room, still smiling at Tristan like she knew a secret that no one else did.
Caine had Meadow go with the Eve and Ivah. He stayed behind with his Father.
"What just happened?" Adam demanded to know.
"Your daughter posses a talent." Tristan said. He had only know this family a short time. He could sense their integrity, their honor. He was drawn to them, the way they trusted and loved so freely. He didn't need to read Adam's mind to know he was only trying to protect his daughter.
"She was showing things to me." he said remembering the visions he had seen. He still did not believe they would happen. His life was forfeit in his mind. Eventually his mother would be done with him so he had nothing left to lose by sharing his secrets to Adam.
"I don't know what your talking about." Adam said determined not to give this man too much information. There was something about Tristan he liked. He had stood up and helped a stranger when he could have easily have walked away. Not many people would have done the same. He still wanted to give Tristan the benefit of the doubt, but his first priority was to protect his family.
Tristan ignored Adam's comment. "She is not the only one to have such gifts. I too have a power, and there are others. Although not all use it for good."
Adam's anger and concern diminished a bit. He and Eve did not quite know what to do to help Ivah. They believed she would be in danger if her gift were to be discovered so the family kept the secret and limited Ivah's contact with the outside world. "What power do you have?" Adam asked Tristan.
This was the test. Once he gave his secrets away there were only two options left to Adam. He could either trust Tristan or kill him to protect his daughter and family. Either way was acceptable to Tristan.
"I can read the emotions and thoughts of others and use those emotions to influence them."
"Influence them to what?" Adam asked.
Tristan hesitated briefly. "To do what I want." he answered.
Caine stiffened at this news. He had to physically restrain himself from lashing out at Tristan. He was heir, but Adam was still head of the family. Adam made the decisions and Caine knew his Father would not want him to hurt Tristan in their home.
"What am I thinking?" Adam asked Tristan, not yet sure what he was going to do about Tristan and Ivah.
"I can't read your mind." Tristan said giving away his one advantage, totally putting his life in Adam's hands.
"You just said..."
"I can't read your mind, but Caine thinks you should kill me to protect your family." Tristan clarified.
"Sit down Tristan." Adam said, making his final decision. He realized that Tristan's admission made him completely vulnerable. Such an admission was an act of trust and respect. Adam would give the same to Tristan. Maybe he could also help them with their current problem.
"Caine, please go get Ivah and your mother."
"Father! I don't think..."
"Caine, please do as I say. I understand if you wish to keep Meadow away from him, her safety is your concern, but please bring Ivah and your mother down."
Caine left and headed to Ivah's room. He would bring them back to the room, then he and Meadow would move to Abel's house. He didn't care if it was their honeymoon, he refused to bring Meadow anywhere near Tristan and his brother would agree.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
The women congregated into Eve's room and waited for some word of what was going on. Meadow asked Ivah if she may rest on her bed, the other women too preoccupied to notice her increasing paler.
"What's going on Ivah? How do you know that man?"
"I have seen him in my dreams, in visions. He is my Destiny." she said nonchalantly.
Eve was worried. Ivah always told her family, especially Eve, everything about her visions, but she had left out this man.
"Why did you not tell me about him?"
"I was afraid it wouldn't come true." Ivah confessed. "He is very..." she struggled for the right word to use, not wanting to give to much information to her Mother,
"...troubled" she finished. "I wasn't sure he would actually make it here."
Meadow sat quietly on Ivah's bed, half listening to the conversation around her. She rubbed her belly as another mild contraction made it's way across it. She hoped this was an early sigh that it would be soon. She and Eve had many conversations about what would happen when it was time. She was not afraid of the pain, she just wanted to meet her baby. To give Caine a child. She smiled as the baby gave a good kick to her belly.
Eve studied her daughters face. Distraught by what she saw.
"You love him!"
"Yes, I do."
""Ivah, you just meet the man!"
"No, I know him probably better than he knows himself. He is so strong and nobel and good. 'And handsome' she thought.
"His whole life he has been told he is worthless, but he isn't. He's wonderful!"
"How do you know so much about him? Your visions are not usually so vivid."
Ivah wasn't ready to share that information with her Mother yet, and was happy when Caine came through the door.
"What's going on Caine?" Eve asked her Son.
"Dad wants you and Ivah to go back down." he said not even looking at his sister. He had always been a bit skeptical of her visions and he blamed her a little for the situation they were in. He knew it was unrational, but he didn't care.
He went to Meadow, gently pulling her to her feet and caressed her cheeck.
"Please wait for me in our room." Caine asked Meadow in hushed tones. "Pack a bag with a change of clothes for us too please."
"Alright." Meadow responded. "Is something wrong?"
"I'll talk to you about it after I take them down." he said and gently kissed her mouth as he rubbed his hand over her abdomen.
The three walked down to the common room together. Eve could tell her son was angry, but she wasn't sure why.
"What's going on Caine? Why are you so upset?"
" You can ask Dad that question. Tell him Meadow and I are going to go stay with Abel and Marsha for awhile." he said as he hugged Eve.Caine briefly looked at Ivah, trying hard to hid the anger he felt towards her, and headed toward the room he shared with Meadow.
Ivah noticed Caine's hurtful look. She didn't understand why he was upset with her.
"It's alright Ivah." Eve said taking her hand and pulling her closer. "We'll find out what's going on."
______________________________________________________________________________________
Caine took Meadow down to the beach that evening. Abel agreed with Caine. He thought his father made a rash decision allowing Tristan to stay with the family. He agreed to go with Caine to talk to his father in the morning.
As they lay in the sand, looking at the stars as they slowly appeared in the sky, Caine rehashed the events of the day.
"I can't believe he would welcome that man into our home. He is dangerous, Meadow." Caine said.
"Your father is a very good judge of character Caine. I doubt he would do anything to jeopardize the family's safety. Ivah has seen..."
"I don't care what she's seen. I won't risk your safety. You and the baby are the most important things to me."
Caine looked into the sky. The days were getting shorter, soon winter would come.
"We should get back to Abel's, it's getting late." he said as he got up.
"Can you help me up please?" Meadow said chuckling. "I can't seem to manage."
Meadows contractions had become increasingly stronger all day. She would tell Caine when they got back Abel's. It would be good to have Marsha near, and she was sure Ciane would send for Eve. By the next evening the baby would be here, she was sure.
Meadow froze with fear as she stood up.
"What's wrong? Caine asked turning his attention to where she was looking.
Caine turned around and gasped!
The beast jumped into the air and attacked. The force of the attack propelled Caine back. He hit his head on a rock that knocked him unconscious
Meadow looked at Caine's body laying limp in the sand.
'Oh God, don't be dead!' she thought as fear gripped her body.
"Caine!" she shouted.
She held her belly as a painful contraction ripped through her.
She drooped to her knees grabbing onto Caines shirt, shaking him, willing him to open his eyes.
"Caine!" she screamed.
Meadow heard a low growl. She looked up into the eyes of the beast.
She tried to get up and run away but another contraction ripped through her.
The beast picked her up, and threw her over his shoulder.
"Caine!" Meadow cried. Trying to protect her belly from the violent jerking caused from the running of the beast. The pain was intense, unbearable. She mustered up all her strength as she called out one last time to Caine.
She watched as the man she loved lay helpless on the beach.
'He can't be dead!' she thought as another contraction ripped through her body. 'He's going to be a father.'
Unable to bear the pain any longer Meadow passed into oblivion.
