Hereinafter referred to as the Big Bad Bang Rec Post - because I was slightly dared to do it and I am weak against anonymous dares, okay. The
entire collection should really be seen to be believed, but if you're just looking for some highlights, this rec post is here to serve.
CONTENT NOTES: All fic and art produced for the Bad Bang were deliberately intended to be as terrible as possible and may contain offensive content. Most are not safe for work, and many are not safe for life; heed the warnings/tags on each piece. Please read responsibly, including all comments for the full effect. Reccer is not liable for any damage to keyboards, screens, eyeballs, or sanity score.
What Ate'nt Dead May Never Die, Game of Thrones/Discworld/Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Cthulhu Mythos: The cthulhoid Theon Greyjoy fic you never knew you wanted. While beautifully terrible in its own right, it only enters true glory when
illustrated (and don't forget to read the comments, where even more brain-bleach-worthy classy art has been committed added).
Planet of the Time Swamps, Doctor Who/Mary Poppins: This is actually legitimately kind of adorable and I loved it unironically, and the
art is REALLY CUTE.
i shot the werewolf (but i did not shoot the sheriff b/c he's not in this fic), Teen Wolf/Supernatural/Sherlock: This fic is the unquestionable epitome of SuperWolfLock and there will never be a single day of your life that you regret reading it. The
art only amplifies its perfection.
Mommy Kink - Art, Supernatural: While the original fic is surely destined to become a Wincest classic - pleasing even to those with the poor taste to enjoy Castiel's gross, problematic face - I must recommend the art even above it.
Two Men, One Angel, Five Popstars - Art, One Direction RPF, Supernatural, Sherlock: Another collection of art which elevates the original fic's concept from inspired to purest genius.
Sucking Me Dry, Shingeki no Kyojin: With surprise hilarious cameo from Hannibal Lecter, this fic is not to be missed. And neither is
the art. I promise you have never seen anything like it and may you never see it again.
Lonely at the Top, Naruto: Oh, sure, this looks like your standard 4chan badfic to start with, but stick with it; as it continues, the author's splendid deployment of autocorrect turns this into an unabashedly Joycean work of surrealist Dadaism.
Also, I have it on good authority *coughmecough* that
the artist for this fic committed deeply to their persona as a 12-year-old boy who sincerely enjoys drawing dicks much more than he enjoys drawing boobs and is not yet willing to admit what this might mean about himself and his hatecrush on Sasuke.
Moonlight Sonata Antarctica, Naruto: ... this is just here because it's actually genuinely kind of hot I'm sorry Also the creator totally does not appreciate the splendid multiple pieces of art they received. HMF.
Sweet Surrender, Star Trek TOS: I LAUGHED AND LAUGHED AND LAUGHED, though also I think it was like one in the morning when I read this one, so. The
art is a staggering work of heartbreaking genius that really fills in the gaps of the original story.
Give Us This Day, Les Miserables: The pinnacle of modern-day bakery AUs. If you only read one modern-day bakery AU for any fandom, it should be this one and its
stunning accompaniment.
Failure - Art, Avatar: The Last Airbender: While the original story is a classic tale of Rape is Love redemption and love triumphing against the odds, the art is in an entirely different category. ... I mean that literally it's actually fanart of a blue dude from the James Cameron movie.
the transplendence of youth donned proper, Thor (Movies), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - All Media Types, Marvel Cinematic Universe: ... I can't spoil this for you I just can't you have to see it with your own eyes to fully appreciate its genius PLEASE READ IT OR YOU HAVE NO SOUL!
Also one of the
artworks created for it is a triggering piece of problematic trash that fails to warn for pop-tarts, while
the OTHER, clearly superior piece truly understands the original author's intent. (And to those of ye who remember my deviantArt days, the delicate, subtle use of texture may seem oddly familiar...)
Usagi Expresses Her Love, Sailor Moon: The lesbian orgy with bonus Tuxedo Mask that the fandom has always deserved and never gotten.
Perfect art, as well.
The (Lesbian) Queen is Dead, Long Live the (Lesbian) Queen, Sailor Moon, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, others: A true lesbian battle royale in the style of many earlier anime fandom classic fics! And the
art is a treasure.
The Death Note is Dead, Long Live the Decoupage!, Death Note: Sure to become a modern classic of the angst genre, this tragic tale of misplaced love and the perils of scrapbooking will delight readers of every age! Its
accompanying art provides the perfect touch of pathos in its inspired rendition of Light Yagami.
What Have the Romans Never Done for Us, The Eagle of the Ninth: Truly the most splendidly researched and faithful fic ever written for Rosemary Sutcliffe's marvelous epic. The characterization is spot-on and again, the incredible historicity of every detail blew me away. To say nothing of
the glorious art!
I could be lemons (I could be tigers), The Hobbit (Jackson movies): I have never read a fic that so perfectly captured the spirit of The Hobbit in so few words - indeed, I might venture to say that this surpasses even the original novel! The
art is also extremely delightful (be sure to check out the artist's reference for Smaug!).
Don't Stop Believin', Inception: A charming yet innovative slice of life, with an astounding
fanmix to accompany it! No really the fanmix is actually fun, listen to it!
And last but far from least, though it pains me physically not to be able to include every single masterpiece...
Darksound of the Opera, a Poem of Longing and the Barricaded Heart, Les Miserables/The Phantom of the Opera: The quintessential fusion of these fandoms, containing the purest distilled essence of imperial-shaded prose and treading in the hallowed footsteps of Marisa Gwenhyfar Amber Flores Ravenna Picard, while bringing a fresh, modern sensibility and the cutting honesty of Thomas Hardy to its subject matter. The artist went above and beyond in service to this glorious fic, bringing us, the humble servants of its creator,
both art and a fanmix, all of unparalleled beauty.
Oh, an honorable mention must go to
both of the Gundam Wing fics. While admirable in their effort, I'm afraid that in a fandom that brought us such classics as blueberry muffin batter for lube and werepanther rape mpreg, they simply were not up to snuff. Fabulous art, though.
And finally, please, please contact me if you have work in the collection which has NOT been visited by one or more of the following: Maya Tijan, nonniechan, Gossngloss, Nonnymus and their fellow student Tucker, sterekluver, Bronymus/Bronnymus, KATAANG 4-EVER, or Hokuto.
