Ahh, what a difference little over a week makes.
This entry comes to from the kitchen of my brand new home in New Paltz, where I sit at the table sipping soda from a penguin mug and chatting with two of the amazing subletters that are staying here this summer. Photos are naturally on the agenda as this house is absolutely adorable and necessitates a post in which I squee over it like the girl I am. The colorful kitchen, my little nook in my room, the penguin paraphernalia I've let seep into various rooms...it shall all be photographed so I can thrust pictures of it in people's faces in the hardcore fashion usually reserved for new moms and their baby pics.
It took a lot of work to get it to this point though as the former tenants left it in a rather deplorable condition. Random objects were left throughout the house, the fridge was covered in strange unknown gunk and cat fur had snuck into every cranny it could. Thankfully the landlord has compensated us by knocking $150 off our impending oil bill so I can't complain. Much.
In the meantime, I'm doing my best to make the funds that will make living here possible. Applications and resumes have been shipped out throughout the Hudson Valley and more interviews are piling up. In the meantime, I'm working part time at a deli in New Paltz called Hoffman's. I applied there well before the school year came to a close so I didn't believe they'd actually hire me....until a call came out of the blue over Memorial Day weekend.
An interview was set up but before I could even perfect my "hire me...hire me...HIRE ME" spiel they called to see if I could work the next day. I was caught off guard but absolutely pleased to find myself thrust into the employment pool once more.
As it stands, the job so far is quite good. My co-workers are amazing, I make fantastic tips and though its minimum wage its half off the books. So, if I can find another part time job, quite hopefully one implementing my degree and internship experience, then I do believe I will be set. Fingers, eyes, legs and all that jazz crossed.
Otherwise, I'm simply enjoying the lovely summer weather and the fact that quite a few of my friends are also residing in New Paltz this summer. My friend Natalie, who transfered to Rutgers, is coming up for an all day extravaganza tomorrow and adventures with the likes of Kristy and Alan have already played out.
In between all of that, I plan to spend my time lounging about, catching some sun and reading some books. There will be adventures in the mountains and to the drive-in, despite my living further from it than usual. NYC is on the agenda for Monday as I'll be seeing Conan and then Friday I may be catching a concert in Poughkeepsie.
So yeah, life right now isn't too shabby. Just so long as a steady income of funds starts coming my way I should be good.
