... "Don't let the bastards grind you down.", was a craved message that Offred found and held onto as something precious, in "The Handmadi's Tale", especially since reading is forbidden to her and other Handmaids

Handmaid's Tale creeps me out, because unlike a lot of the other "possible future" novels of that time, I can actually see this happening. The time that Offred lived in before everything went pear shaped was ours, too believable.

It was written during the Reagan era
