The fact that the man had, in Marius's opinion, a dedication to a completely erroneous political viewpoint served to make Marius focus more intently on the lesson. This was a very different method of behavior for him, as Marius usually spent most of his class time alternatively daydreaming and guiltily scribbling down notes. He scanned the room for his other group members, slightly unsure as to their identities.
