potions class RP

Attired in standard faculty robes, Stephen Maturin stands behind a long table at the head of the potions classroom, waiting for the class to come to order. He is in no great hurry, but when one or two conversations trickle over into the silence that otherwise falls over the room, he gives the assembled students a look that raises a "shhh" from the ( Read more... )

Christine sat quietly in roughly the middle of the classroom and looked around for her lab partners. She hadn't met with either gentlemen mentioned, (or, at least, she assumed they were gentlemen, because the first name 'The' didn't appear to be very feminine) and had no idea what they would look like.

She busied herself with taking very careful notes, as she used to in singing seminars in Conservatory, and ventured very timid glances around the room.

Oh. With Jack. That was...such an incredible stroke of irony. He used to find irony funny, but now that was just annoying. Ah well...hopefully neither of them would start a fight in the middle of class. The Doctor, however, didn't know this Christine. She wasn't hard to spot once other groups started forming.

"Hullo," he greeted merrily. "Um, are you...Christine, then?"

Unhappy cranky and slightly miserable Jack now made even happier with the fact he was in a group with the Doctor. Jack headed over towards the Doctor looking a picture of cheeriness, so that would be a scowl and hand stuffed in pockets.

Though he did manage a small smile to Christine. "Hey."

Christine smiled up at them and pushed her blonde hair out of hr eyes. "Yes." She stood and curtsied. "Christine Daae, at your service, Messiuers. Ah..." Now, whom was whom?

Christine looked at the Doctor first, and smiled prettily. "Do I have the honor of addressing Monsieur Harkness or Monsieur Doctor?"

Jack arrived promptly as usual, having spent the previous half-hour figuring out a charm to prevent his civilian clothes from getting stains on them. (His undress uniform still bore ink-stains from the last Potions class, despite all his efforts to get them out, and he had not worn it since.) He was pleased to discover that he was in a group with the charming Mr. Goodfellow, the hilarious and brilliant Mr. Scott, and Stephen's amour, the equally charming Miss Williams. This would be a most enjoyable class.

While waiting for the others to show up, he noticed Miss Daae sitting alone, and smiled at her from across the room. Would that she were in his group as well - but then, you couldn't have everything.

Christine spotted Jack and, beaming, waved at him, before returning to her group. How lovely to see him! She was quite glad that she knew someone in the class, at least.

Having listened very attentively thus far - and tried not to wink at the professor - Sarah gathered her bag as the groups were laid out. Recognizing the names of two of her group members - one happily so as it was Stephen's friend Captain Aubrey - she moved to where the group was settling in and greeted him first.

"Hello Captain Aubrey, how are you today?" she asked and then lowered her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "Perhaps glad Potions isn't done in song?" Really, it would only be to a close friend of Stephen's she would dare mention such a thing but she needed someone to share her amusement and fondness for the karaoke display the other night.

Michael had spent several hours before class going through the joke books he had happened to bring with him to Hogwarts. (It's a good thing he had had them with him on the way to what he had thought would be the Dundies, or else he would've had to call Pam to go into his office and peruse them for him - and that would've been very difficult, seeing as telephones seemed pretty much non-existent in this place.) As such, he felt highly prepared for class. He had given pretty much no thought to the actual substantive (i.e., potions) aspect of it. Comedy would get him where he needed to be, after all.

Strolling in a few minutes before class started, Michael immediately spotted Jack and walked over to him, sitting down in the chair next to him. "Heeeeeeeyyyy, Jack-O! Jackie Chan!" He might have been interrupting a conversation, but even if he had known this, it was unlikely that he would have cared. "Aaaa~aaaaand who do we have here? Uh-oh, careful, there just miiiiii~iiiiight be a catfight, because you're waaaaaaay cuter than Pam, and I ( ... )

Marius had managed to overcome his initial dislike of Professor Maturin and his politics, and was calmly sitting in the back of the class.

The fact that the man had, in Marius's opinion, a dedication to a completely erroneous political viewpoint served to make Marius focus more intently on the lesson. This was a very different method of behavior for him, as Marius usually spent most of his class time alternatively daydreaming and guiltily scribbling down notes. He scanned the room for his other group members, slightly unsure as to their identities.

Valentine, grinning as usual, gave his groupmates a cursory nod. He eyed the ingredients and wondered which, if any, would be an asset to his collection of drugs. In any case, sedatives could be useful for balancing out his stimulants, battle drugs, and a few of his hallucinogens, so he planned to look into keeping a stash around. He picked up a mandrake root and began peeling off the bark, surrepticiously saving some for later experimentation.

Marius nodded back. This was probably... Valentine? He likewise fell to work, and deftly began peeling the mandrake root. It wasn't so different from cooking, really, and he'd done that for himself for years, now.

(( Hi, Valentine-mun and Marius-mun -- I've just been told by Hermione-mun that his computer is really acting up, hence Hermione's inactivity in this RP. So just go ahead and keep RPing, no need to wait for Hermione. I don't want to penalise the character for the mun's computer problems; is there a way to assume somehow that she's been collaborating? ))

Ed sat down and waited for his group to show up. Never having heard Osaka's real name, he assumed that he was grouped with strangers like last time.

Osaka made her way to her group table and grinned broadly to see a familiar face. "Ed-san!"

"Osaka? You're in this group? I didn't see your name on the list..."

"I told you Osaka's not my real name, it's a nickname. My real name is Ayumu. Nobody ever calls me that, though."

Daniel found a table and waited for the rest of his groupmates to show up--he knew Janet would be in class, so he'd worn his best BDU's and cursed his lack of civilian clothing. He busied himself arranging the equipment, hoping like hell he didn't do anything stupid in front of Janet.

Nessa approached the table with a smile. She'd met at least one of her groupmates this time! "Doctor Jackson? I believe we met at your Sorting. I'm Nessarose Thropp."

"Hi," he said. He maneuvered the extra chairs out of the way, clearing a space at the table so she could move around it easily. "Have you ever taken this class before?" he asked. "I did once, and didn't understand much of it at all. Never was any good with chemistry."

"Once," Nessa replied, "but it was kind of confusing. Science was always more my sister's specialty. But this time, we just have to make a potion instead of figuring out what's in a potion, so I'll probably be marginally better at this. I hope." She didn't look very hopeful.
