((Plus their Shoggies if they care to appear. Backdated to December 31st of last year.))
Variety may be the spice of life, but there was something to be said for familiarity and the stability and balance it brought, particularly for someone whose interpersonal relationships had been on a perpetual revolving door basis, with few exceptions. For Skwisgaar, the bands he'd been a member of had been about as interchangeable and disposable as groupies, before Dethklok. Dethklok was worthy of his talent, Dethklok challenged him to be at the top of his game. In the same vein, he hadn't known that a real, meaningful, long term relationship was even feasible for someone such as him, before Toki found a way into his heart and made him realise what "forever" could mean. Toki and Dethklok were his exceptions.
Familiarity and stability. Foundation.
These concepts had seldom been far from Skwisgaar's thoughts over the last several months, and ultimately culminated in a decision to seek permanence in his relationship with Toki -- offering some greater commitment than what he'd already given. The only problem was in figuring out what form that could take, when they'd already agreed that they wanted to stay together indefinitely, and Skwisgaar had even gradually come to prefer sexual monogamy of his own accord. Groupies and sluts and GMILFs and FBLs were the equivalent of fast food compared to the full course meals he could enjoy at home; it all boiled down to quality over quantity.
What else, then, was there to give in a relationship? Maybe a symbolic gift, like the small token of their woven together hair had been. It had to be something special...

Early on New Year's Eve, Skwisgaar directed the house elves to string up multicoloured lights in his and Toki's room, from wall to wall, lining the enormous aquarium setup, across the headboard of their bed, over each doorway and window. There were even strands of lights charmed to function independently that were strung across each Shoggy drawer of the Shoggy bedroom-dresser, but those were fully expected to be eaten before evening.
Skwisgaar arranged for some traditional, festive meals and desserts from both his and Toki's home countries, as well as less traditional fare such as popsicles, doughnuts, cupcakes, chips, salsa, and other favourite junk foods. Then of course there was a good selection of their preferred booze, from both their world and the wizarding world, since no special occasion was complete without alcohol. Skwisgaar wanted to make the day memorable and enjoyable, not simply because of the holiday, but because of what he planned to give Toki on the first day of the new year.
Late evening found Skwisgaar perched on their bed and picking away at his guitar, which was plugged into an amplifier for a change, the volume kept low. His practise seemed aimless as his fingers wandered over the frets, but after a time a discernible melody was resolving itself. While he played, he snacked from one of the food trays next to him, and was careful to keep an eye on the clock. When midnight finally approached he put his guitar away and turned to look out one of the windows. No fireworks yet, but the house elves had assured him there would be an impressive display this year, and there was the possibility they might even fulfill some of his specific requests.
"Hey," he said to get Toki's attention, "you wants to goes out and watch the firesworks? They'll be startings soon."
