Rory had thought he was getting used to things like this. All right, maybe not 'used to'. More used to. Less likely to stand around boggling in the face of alien weirdness. But, that was what he was doing - staring, wide-eyed, at what had been the TARDIS a few seconds ago and now

"What? Another one?" Turlough looked at Rory's hair. "Well, that ruins my 'Doctor has a ginger fetish' theory."

Rory blinked at him. And then boggled some more. There was a lot to take in in that comment.

"...he's here? Amy's here?" And then, with rather more convincing indignance, "What do you mean, ginger fetish?"

[vislor_turlough]

"Your...fiance, was it? Your fiance is far from the first red-headed companion the Doctor's traveled with. There's that one woman-I forget her name- and there's myself, of course."

"My fiancee. Yes. Amy." He smiled for a moment, despite everything, because Amy was here and not in some other remote corner of the universe - then caught up with the rest of the sentence again. "And it's not like that with her and the Doctor, okay? They're just ...friends. I mean. Amy is my fiancee."

The only thing worse than babbling is knowing you're doing it and not being able to stop.

Turlough raised an eyebrow. Talk about insecure. He obviously actually was worried that something was going on between them.

"One hell of a honeymoon, then, if you two are traveling with the Doctor then."

Rory nodded. He'd noticed that eyebrow, but mentioning it would not be helpful now he'd finally managed to control himself. "Yeah. And one hell of a stag night at the moment, technically." He still wasn't quite over the cake thing.

"Well, it's nice to know some things don't change with regenerations. The Doctor always had a lousy sense of timing."

"Just a bit." He was calmer now, curiosity taking over from the initial shock. "So, you know him? He doesn't talk about his past much..."

[vislor_turlough]

"Traveled with him back in his fifth regeneration, I think he said. From what I gathered the one time I went to his home planet, he doesn't think much of it."

Course, Turlough doesn't know about the whole 'Gallifrey is destroyed' thing.

Rory does, but he's not going to mention it. That would a. make an awkward conversation even more awkward and b. potentially cause some kind of time paradox or something.

Better focus on something else. "His fifth - what? Sorry, I'm a bit new at this."

"Think of the Doctor as a cat with multiple lives. He has the ability to regenerate into a new body if the need arises. The one I traveled with was his fifth one. I've also met the first three."

"Oh, so he's - biologically immortal, then?" Rory hoped it wasn't obvious that he'd got that one from a Sunday newspaper. There'd been this article about jellyfish. "That explains a lot, actually."

[vislor_turlough]

"I don't think it's that, otherwise that incident with that Time Lord was completely pointless. Just a very extended lifespan."

"Right, but similar? And I mean, that explains why he doesn't look that old."

[vislor_turlough]

"Yeah. He actually looks a bit younger now than when I traveled with him."

Rory thought about this. "Did he still have the bow tie back then?"

Yes, this was an important question. If only because it might give him something to say if the Doctor ever brought up The Ponytail again.
