"Not with this!" Ryuk held up his Death Note. "These sheets of paper can kill more humans than you can! And almost did. Well, not THIS Death Note, but still."

Smaug was well acquainted with the destructive potential of written spells and runework; Ryuk's claim provoked no surprise, only mild interest.

"Can it now? I should like to see." He exhaled dark smoke as he stared at the shinigami. "I have not smelt the likes of you before. What are you?"

"Well, I can't show it HERE, this place is a no-kill zone, but the gist is you write someone's name down, and they die. I'm a shinigami. Name's Ryuk."

"None can die here, then, shinigami Ryuk?" Smaug asked, suddenly keenly interested in what the shinigami had to say. That was certainly useful information to have.

"Nope! Good thing too, there are people that would kill each other, given the chance."

This also meant he would be incapable of killing others on the school grounds, or so he assumed, but that was the only downside he could see. Well, so there'd be no feasting on the castle residents. At least there was still the forest.

"Doubtless there are," he agreed. "What else might you tell me of this place?"

"Well, it's a place to learn magic, and there are house elves that get you as many apples as you want!"

House-elves? Must be those tiny goblin-looking creatures, he assumed.

"And why should I want apples?" Clearly he didn't care for fruit.

"You don't like apples?"
