((OOC: the nerd in me...metathought is to think about thought...))

After what could only be called a disasterous conversation, L was not really wanting to be alone with his own thoughts. To be alone meant he had to reevaluate his own thinking processes in the face of new evidence, something he greatly detested. He was the world's three greatest ( Read more... )

A sunflower stalk peered over the edge of the table.

"That looks like fun!"

L glanced over, expecting a person. At least he didn't fall off the bench he was crouched on, though the sugar tower wasn't quite as fortunate. The sugar scattered all over the table. "It's...something to do," he stammered.

"I want to try!" Sunflora climbed up on the bench. "Excuse me," she said to a passing house elf. "Can I have some hot chocolate?" The house elf nodded, tittering about addicts.

Unable to think of a reason to deny the...flower...L pushed over some sugar cubes to....it...so...it...could attempt the feat. He wondered if...it...would have the manual dexterity to stack sugar cubes.

Soichiro had taken some drink from the open bar (no telling what it was, but it smelled alcoholic) and gone to the Great Hall, thinking that there was less chance that he'd run into someone he knew there.

So of course, L's there.

"Matt's back," the last person to know said, standing off to the side behind L.

L looked up from his sugar tower. "Yes. The last I knew, he was in our room," he said calmly, though his hand might have had a slight tremor to it. "Are you feeling well, Yagami-san?"

He muttered something about "not my week" as he sat nearby, asking for food.

Focusing on someone else's misery might be a way to avoid his own thoughts for a while. "How do you say?" he asked, trying to sound genuinely concerned.

Turlough was quite moody. Dwight had served his detention all right. Trouble is he enjoyed said detention. How was Turlough to know that alphabetizing was one of his favorite things?

Anyway, on his food run, he spotted Ryuzaki.

"You look like I feel."

L looked up at the speaker. "Has the foundation of your way of thinking crumbled under you as well?" he asked, though he hadn't intended to.

"Not recently, I just hate when I try to make people suffer and they enjoy it." He leaned against the table.

L pressed his thumb against his lip. "Yes, I could see how that would upset you," he said. "Though, it could be that they only appeared to enjoy it to make you suffer?" he suggested.

Oliver Wood sat down at the other end of the table, carrying a huge plate of food. With obvious enjoyment, he dug in. Quidditch worked up an appetite.

"Oi. Want some tea with your sugar?" he asked.

L glanced down the table then back at his own cup. With a quirk of his lips, he replied, "Only enough to make the sugar drinkable." It was feeble, but it was a joke he'd heard somewhere.

He smiled. Oliver liked simple humor, because dry wit wasn't his forte. "Carry on, then," he said, waving his fork. "Or better yet, have any sugar to spare?" He'd munch on a cube or two.

L glanced at the sugar bowl a moment before picking it up, walking in a slouch to the end of the table, placing it before the other boy and walking back to hop back on the bench. "I can get more if needed," he said, resuming his pattern of stacking and putting sugar in his tea.
