Bean asks the question in Spanish, a language he still associates with the merchants of Jonker Frans Straat. He's a little fascinated by children his age, but this...
It reminds him of Poke, dead in the river with a knife through her eye.
It's the right language, and Bean suddenly has Santi's absolute hero-worship. He's standing right in front of him (well, a few feet away) bleeding from the forehead, dark eyes wide and unblinking. The water sloshes around him.
"Someone beat me up and then put me in water so they wouldn't find me."
He can think of lots of reasons why, particularly from his time on the streets. And while he's seen dead bodies - dead children - before now, he's never spoken to one before.
It's the question he'd want to be asked, Bean thinks.
Like he needed to. Santi is already staring at him with all the adoration of an isolated seven year old. He's been dead a long time, and everyone else just screams and runs off.
"It's supposed to go Gryffindor for the brave, Ravenclaw for the smart, Hufflepuff for the useful and Slytherin for the sneaky. But as far as I can tell it's just a system for allocating dormitories. Do you have a preference?"

Whoops, missed that one, Jacinto. Talk about mistakes coming back to haunt you.

"I hope you got him," Bean says. And he means it. "Or someone got him for you."

"I murdered him back. He was going to hurt all the others. He even blew up part of the orphanage."
Model citizen that he was.

Well, everyone he's lived with for the past four years, and haunted for the next few after that.

This is called bonding! It's a tactic Bean has employed before to help forge teams - the jeesh, most notably. There's no real reason to do it now.
"Generally, we vote new people into Houses when they arrive. Has anyone explained the Houses yet?"

He shakes his head 'no,' to the question.

It's pretty hard to try to pick.
