"I do not know. I am lost."

He is fairly sure men cannot marry, given that it is Spain in the thirties, but he is hardly going to push the matter with this person.

"Who are you?"

Snape points out the obvious. "You have been filling out this application. With some physical difficulty, it would seem. That would suggest you were filling it out to some purpose. Or do you always devote such effort to random movements?

"I am Professor Snape. I am Head of the Hospital. I make potions. I cast spells." That is the simple version. In simple words for this child. "You are at Hogwarts. Were you a wizard? Only wizards may become ghosts." He is matter of fact.

"I thought I was supposed to? Are you always horrible? Isn't that unpleasant? You remind me of Jacinto and he murdered me and threw me down a pool with rocks on my feet. I'm not a wizard, but if I was I would have cursed him into falling down dead."

Before he died, he means, he's already killed him afterwards.

Severus recoils and stares. This child is even worse than the usual collection of first-years. "Are you always rude? If so, every contact you have with people will also be unpleasant. No one likes a disrespectful rude child, unwilling to behave properly. This is a school of Witchcraft would and Wizardry, and That is an application form, that it might be determined in which House you belong. It is unpleasant to have died in such a way, I am sure, but you are not the only ghost here. You are not the only one to have had an unfortunate death." Or life.

"Now, you also must understand that it is absolutely forbidden to kill someone with magic. It is one of three unforgivable curses. If you attempt such things, as you insinuate you would have been eager to do, you will be sent to a prison worse than you can even imagine, ghost or no."

"Really?"

Snape has frightened him into practical invisibility. All that remains is a bloodstain in the air.

Severus hears the trail of this single word on the air and replies "Really." With some emphasis and a tone of sarcasm. The ghost has disappeared. He shrugs and, exiting the sorting room, carries on down the hall, his robes black clouds about him.
