"I don't play the violin, smoke a pipe, or use intravenous drugs, if that's what you mean."

Well, no, I didn't mean that, Wishbone looked a little sheepish, but I mean, do you solve mysteries?

There was something oddly endearing, Near realized, about the little dog. "I do, yes. It's much like putting together a puzzle."

Wishbone wagged his tail. I like reading mysteries, I've even helped Joe solve a few mysteries of our own. I've never put together a puzzle, though, he thinks I'll eat the pieces. They don't taste good, though.

"Most of the puzzles I solve now are the mental sort. But if you see me building a house of cards, kindly avoid bumping into it. Otherwise I'd be angry."

Wishbone's eyes widened. Oh! Yes sir! Hell, he'll plant his butt right now. I'll be sure not to knock over your cards. You better not build in any of the common rooms or the Great Hall, then, lots of people come through there.

"They'll just have to learn to avoid them."

Wishbone's tail and ears drooped a bit. I was just warning you. I didn't want anyone else to knock over your cards either.

"Perhaps you could guard my cards, then, and bark to tell people to stay away." Near smiled.
