"Hi," Jaime said nervously. "Not a prank, I got dumped here too, and why Farsi?" Hey, English and Spanish (or, if you were Paco, Spanglish) were par for the course back home.

He might have been babbling, but that was mainly due to the fact that his attention was fixed on the gun that was still not holstered.

"My mom's Persian." Dani paused, chewing on her lip. She wasn't the biggest fan of parent-talk. "Picked it up from her."

The guy seemed a little edgy, so Dani holstered her gun and tried her best at a disarming smile. "Relax, I've got a permit. And I'm disinclined to shoot at kids."

Okay, that was a little bit better. Jaime relaxed visibly when she holstered the gun. "Thanks. Sorry. Lotta people freak when they get dumped here. Myself included." The smile wasn't that disarming, but he could totally relate to the freaking out. "Looks like you were already hip-deep in the crazy before you wound up here," he added, noting the Hufflepuff answer. "I'm Jaime. Jaime Reyes."

"Neck deep, is more like it. I'm trained not to freak." Not to freak too much, at any rate. She held out a hand. Dani usually counted on Charlie to be the friendly partner. Before he went into a rant about new fangled technology. Still, he wasn't here at the moment, his rants (thankfully) weren't here at the moment, so she had to give it a go solo.

"Detective Reese." Pause. "Dani."

"Yeah, I'm still working on that. Not freaking, I mean." Realizing that made no sense, he added, "Got a lotta crazy friends back home who keep getting in trouble. Feels like I'm their babysitter, sometimes." Even before the lost year.

"Nice to meet you, Detective." Couldn't call her Dani; the name kept making him think of Dani Garrett, which didn't fit at all. "Uh, you get the rundown of where you are yet, or do I get to sound like a raving nutjob?"

"Yeah, I can related to that." Not that Dani had many friends, exactly. Work had taken up most of the social aspects of her life (one night stands didn't count as a social life). But there were times where she felt like Crews' babysitter, rather than his partner. Granted, that feeling had lessened in the months since they'd started working together, but it still happened more than she'd like.

"Same here. And I've pretty much gotten the rundown, so if you sound like a nutjob, you can't blame the magic castle."

It might have been a joke.

Jaime nodded, understanding. Being the Responsible One was not always fun, but somebody had to do it.

"No, but you can blame it for a lot of things," he muttered off-handedly, remembering the number of times he'd been late to meet someone because the castle had rearranged something on him again. "Like people getting randomly dumped here. If I tried to explain this to my Mom, she'd be thinking I was on drugs." Thank God time seemed to move differently here.

Anyway. Tangent. Moving on. "Think I oughta vote you somewhere so you can get out of here quicker. Nobody gets out til they get Sorted, but you usually don't until you get a couple votes." There was something about the application he was curious about, though. "Can I ask what the program is? Don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

"Out of here sounds great." Greater than great. She could get out of here, on a plane, and figure out who to arrest for all of this.

Currently, she was considering just serving papers to the entire nation of Scotland. But it had been a long day.

"It's a detox thing," Dani said, matter-of-factly. That was part of the whole rehab deal. Being able to say you had a problem if it came up in conversation. Some people in Dani's group wouldn't shut up about their addictions. She always figured it was something about all the attention. Dani, however, hated attention and strove to make her time in rehab sound as everyday as possible. No a bigger a deal than buying a new pair of pants. "Been clean twenty four months.

"Cool," Jaime said. Realizing that made no sense and she didn't want to make a big deal of it, he added, "That you're clean. Doing something." He sighed. "Some people don't even try." Like Luis, or Brenda's dad. The DUI may have been a cover-up, but it was a plausible one for good reason.

"I'm gonna vote Gryffindor," he decided. "It's a pretty good House, lotta cops there." The type of cops who were not likely to be paid off by La Dama, of course. "And people who know what it's like to have to babysit the crazy," he added. Granted, you could find them everywhere at Hogwarts considering just how much crazy there was, but still.
