Soichiro is taken from when he died, which is five years after L and Light were taken from. He is not aware of this yet, but when he is, he'll try to keep as much from them as possible.

Soichiro also still has his shinigami eyes, meaning he will be able to see a person's true

Kal, in full Mandalorian getup, looked the man up and down, measuring. "Oh yeah? What's my name, then, vod?"

((Kal Skirata isn't his birth name, but no one except maybe Karen Traviss knows what is because he was about three when he was adopted and doesn't remember, so you can just go with that :-P ))

"I'm not sure what you mean by 'vod', but I'm afraid I can't see your name. Your face is covered, you see. There are a few limits to my eyes."

Kal thought it over, grunted, and removed the bucket. Under the helmet he looked just like any other middle-aged human male: shorter and more scarred and weatherbeaten than most, but it was to be expected in his line of work. "So this's got to do with your eyes, then? What'd you do, get some fancy implants?"

"No, Mr. Skirata. I made a deal with a shinigami to get the eyes."

[kandosii_kal]

The use of his surname earned the man an impressed eyebrow raise. "Kal does just fine. Can't say I've ever heard of a shinigami before now. Are they a different species, a profession, what?"

[papayagami]

"Kal then. I guess you can say they're a different species. The literal meaning of 'shinigami' is 'death god'."

[kandosii_kal]

"Hm. In my experience, people who give themselves names like that are either very good or complete and utter di'kutse. I take it they're the good ones."

[papayagami]

"I can't really say. I've only met a couple and I don't want to give out too much information."

[kandosii_kal]

"Awful dangerous of you to make deals with shady people, vod," he said in a tone that indicated he didn't really care. Hell, Kal was a shady person that people might advise against making deals with. People that weren't his boys and the other strays he'd picked up along the way, anyway. "So why would a cop with weird eyes show up here? Or is that more information you don't want to give out?"

[papayagami]

"Yes, well, the situation we were in was a dangerous one. And I'm afraid I don't know why I'm here. I died, and then came here. To be honest, at first I thought this was the afterlife."

[kandosii_kal]

"Died," he said, frowning in skepticism. "This better not be a shabla afterlife. I didn't die. So where do you want to go?"

"Gryffindor sounds best to me."
