Soichiro is taken from when he died, which is five years after L and Light were taken from. He is not aware of this yet, but when he is, he'll try to keep as much from them as possible.

Soichiro also still has his shinigami eyes, meaning he will be able to see a person's true

"Oh, come now. If you're a police chief, then you're not doing your job if you stay out of other people's business," Reilly pointed out idly.

"It's only necessary if it's actually pertinent to the case. Certainly not to the extreme of bugging someone's house without a shred of evidence to go on." True, that. L bugged his entire house and the only thing Soichiro got out of it was that Light looks at porn. Which he would have rather not known.

"Where I'm from the authorities liked to call that a good evening's entertainment," he replied. "They also used a definition of 'pertinent' that was rather...flexible, let us say."

Oh god, it's L. No, seriously, those two would get along good.

"Well. Then. I suppose if that's how you do things, I won't object."

[sidney_reilly]

"Oh, not I. I was far more often the suspected party than the other way 'round, in Russia at least," he said.

"My masters in British intelligence could ill afford to give me any official standing, so they were only too able to throw me overboard if a mission began taking on water. Luckily I was usually able to bring home results sufficient to keep our...association...an amiable one. But really, wiring for sound - call me old-fashioned, but it just doesn't seem sporting."

"Only sound? You're either keen on a challenge or just crazy, even the three greatest detectives in the world use visual bugging as well." (Technically true.)

[sidney_reilly]

"I gather that's quite possible now, but in my day such devices were a very long way off." Reilly made a face. "Really, this business of dying and losing 80 years between then and my resuscitation here has made an old fogey of me before my time."

"I can relate. I only hope I didn't lose that much time. I gather that you're from the past then, Mr....." Soichiro knew his name, but he also knew (too well) that a name was a dangerous thing to know.

[sidney_reilly]

"Reilly. Sidney Reilly." He extended a hand. "The year was 1925 when I died, and I gather it's late in 2007 now. Difficult to believe, even after seeing how the world's moved on with my own eyes. You also, then, Soichiro-san? If you'd like to talk about it, I'd understand. If you'd not like to talk about it, I'd also understand."

"Reilly, huh?" An alias then, if the 'Sigmund Rosenblum' floating above his head was anything to go by. Nevertheless, Soichiro shook his hand. "2009. I am apparently in the past, then. That can't be entirely good."

[sidney_reilly]

"No, but also perhaps not entirely bad," he pointed out. "You are at least in the right ball park, so to speak. Where I had a learning curve, you'll have to take care with your foreknowledge. Paradoxes and all that. On the other hand, far fewer surprises, I should think."

"True. Foresight and all. Still, I'll have to be careful what I say to who. No different from work, really, except instead of lives, it's a timeline at stake.
