A day had passed. One whole freaking day. And no reply.

All right, maybe I'd let my temper get the best of me. Maybe. But damn it, Ivy, you can't just be all blood happy and then not answer me! I was sick with worry, guilty as hell, and driving everyone around me insane with my random pacing and muttering. The woman who ran the cafe near my room thought I had some evil eye or something.

So, another owl. And then one sent an hour after that one. The third followed close behind.

Turn it, I was getting an answer.

---

Ivy,

If you've killed someone, at least tell me so I know where to send the cake with the file in it.

- R

---

Ivy,

I'm sorry I

Don't ignore me. I will get Jenks involved and then you'll be annoyed to death. Twice.

-Rachel

---

Ivy,

TURN IT ALL, TAMWOOD, ANSWER ME.

It was a pretty common fact known amongst vampires - if you bled a person to within an inch of their life, one would stay content for upwards of a day and a half. Oh, Ivy hadn't killed the poor man, she'd left him enough blood to live on. She wasn't a killer.

The bombardment of owls didn't even wake her up, seeing as she tended to sleep like the dead when full.

But when she woke, Ivy rubbed her eyes and blinked to focus her vision, taking in the three letters at the foot of her bed. All from Rachel, of course, and sounding increasingly frantic. Frustrated, Ivy's tucked her hair behind her ear and set about penning a reply.

Rachel,

I was sleeping.

Also, I thought you said you didn't want me to write to you when I was 'like that'. I was simply doing you a favor, sparing you the thought of the mean old vampire hurting the innocent people.

That's what Rachel got for making her do anything when Ivy was still post-sleeping grumpy - cranky letters.

Oh, thank the Turn. Actually sagging in relief, my forehead hit the table with a sold thump. I hadn't slept, couldn't eat, had been out of my mind worrying, and that freaking vampire had been napping. If I wasn't so happy to find out she wasn't holed up in some dump draining winos dry, I'd stake her myself. Well, the least I could do was some biting sarcasm. My specialty.

With a hand only slightly shaking, I jotted off a note before heading home back to my room for a solid three hours of sleep. Runs would wait for no witch, no matter how idiotic said witch's former roommate was.

Ivy,

Well, good to know you're still among the living and non-incarcerated.

You know how much I hate it when you

Glad you found something to your liking. Should I get you matching collars, or is that too last year vamp gauche?

At least Ivy could find ways to distract herself and try to not think about the fact that Rachel would likely be sending a letter. She was not going to wait for it like a clingy pre-teen desperate to find out what their object of affection was going to say next. Definitely not.

So, she showered. She ate. She read the next chapter of a book she was halfway through. But the lingering feeling of waiting would not go away - made stronger by the fact that she was no longer completely full and satiated.

And by the Turn, Ivy hated the slowly returning feel of guilt. Made worse by Rachel's returning letter. The only possible option would be to carry on like last night and pretend that she didn't care.

Rachel,

Collars are out, matching wrist-cuffs are in. Didn't you read the latest edition of Shadow Fashions?

I was halfway out into the middle of nowhere, the window cranked down letting both the faint breeze that could be stirred up in the late-afternoon heat and copious amounts of dust in. Humming Takata's latest song - the hunk of junk I'd bought for a hundred bucks didn't have a/c, and it sure as hell didn't have a radio - providing my own drums on the steering wheel, I tried to feel as carefree as I looked ( ... )
