((I'm taking Magrat from the very end of Witches Abroad, mostly because that's my favorite of the Witch books and because it has KUNG FU MAGRAT woo-cha!. Sooo... yep. Magrat before she marries Verence and all that. Feel free to recognize her as the queen of Lancre, she'll just be very confused!))A worried-looking young woman with wild, frizzy hair ( Read more... )

If it's not too forward of me, I just wanted to say that I like your answer to the Slytherin question. I only wish more people would appreciate food for its nutritional value.

Oh, thank you! *brightens up* Hardly anyone ever thinks about how their food could affect their digestive systems.

That's very true! I only wish my companions shared your viewpoint.

Ah, I'm sorry, I've forgotten to introduce myself. How rude of me! My name is Hakkai Cho, but please feel free to call me Hakkai. May I ask your name, miss?

I know! Whenever I try to explain what sort of things are happening to their intestines, they always get funny looks on their faces and remember something that they had to do on the other side of the village. It's very strange.

Hakkai? That's an interesting name. I'm Magrat Garlick.

My, that reaction is very similar to the kind I've encountered. I always suspect that they simply decide to go off and gorge themselves on something unhealthy or engulfed with sugar while they're out of my sight.

*laughs shyly* I suppose it is a bit of an odd name, isn't it? Well, it's nice to meet you, Miss Garlick. Ah, how long have you been practicing medicine, if you don't mind my asking?

Oh! No, no, I meant it as a compliment. At least your name is spelled correctly. I've been doing medicine ever since I started up witching. It's part of the job, but Goodie Whemper maysherestinpeace was always very keen on researching herbs and such.

Ah, I'm sorry for the misunderstanding! Thank you very much, then. Misspellings add character, I think.

You're trained in herbology, witchcraft, and medicine? My, it seems that you're very talented, Miss Garlick. So, ah. . . was Goodie Whemper your mentor, then?

*is starting to go a bit red from the compliments!* Er. Ah. Thank you?

Um. All three sort of go together. They're under the same umbrella, so to speak. Goodie Whemper trained me up, I inherited her cottage when she passed on.

Is that so? How very versatile, then. I suppose my understanding of magic and the like is a limited to what I know from where I'm originally from and what I've learned from this school.

I'm very sorry for your loss. . . Did you study witchcraft with Goodie Whemper for very long?

What sort of things do you learn here, anyways? I've heard a broad overview of what the school is, but... are there classes? Covens? Nightly dancing rituals?

A few years, yes. She died doing the sort of researching work that she enjoyed, though. Well, maybe not the broomstick.

The school itself is for learning magic and training its students in witchcraft and wizardry, as I'm sure you already know. Classes are held infrequently, whenever the professors have time to organize them, and even then they're optional. Most learning must be done independently by doing some research in the library. I do hope you can learn something useful here, given the fact that you must be well-versed on these topics already!

. . . er, broomstick?

Ah, I suppose I should sort you. . . do you have any preference as to which house I choose for you?

*Her eyes light up at the word 'library'* Oh... oh wow. *big grin!*

Um... yes. She died while researching how far a broom could fly if you kept taking out handfuls of bristles. Her last words were 'oh, bugger'.

I think I'd like to go in Hufflepuff, please. I've met some people from there, and they seemed quite nice.

Ah, what an interesting thing to research. . .

*smiles* I imagine you're going to like the library very much, then -- I know I certainly visit it often. I do hope you enjoy your stay here, miss.
