The floor of the popcorning room was rather cold. He blinked owlishly down at his hand... wait. Stone? It'd been a long time since he'd seen a stone floor like this; so old, trafficked by feet so long it was smooth as marble

Susan didn't know why she'd gone back to the popcorn room, but she'd felt like taking a walk, and that was where her feet had carried her. The poker tapped against her boot as she went along, a nice staccatto rhythm, until she stepped inside and found she was not alone.
"Hello," she said, eying the somewhat confused young man--she could commiserate; she'd felt damned disoriented herself.
"Er," he offered, and then he swallowed and tried again. "Hello. I don't suppose you could tell me where I am." He smoothed the front of his vest carefully before stepping into full view.
Susan gave him a slightly crooked smile. "The popcorn room," she said. "You'll have...been away for a while, in all likelihood, and you probably won't remember it. I didn't."
Stephen had come to the popcorn room to pay his respects to Jack Aubrey -- only to find his friend's name had vanished from the plaque. Incredulous, he entered the room anyway, as though the kernels could give some sign to confirm the disappearance, unlabeled and inaccessible though they were.
So stunned he was at the absence of Jack's name, he did not notice that another name had also disappeared from the plaque, indicating a new unpopcorning.
... well, he seems like a decent gent. Much more likely that Simon could manage to put the right questions together to ask him. Simon approached, and for a moment he got the slightest twinge. "...excuse me," he interjected, politely. "You look very familiar."
It was a complete fluke that Kaylee was walking past the popcorn room, she'd meant to take another route back to Hufflepuff but a moving staircase had deposited her on this floor so there she was. As she walked past the door she heard a familiar voice, one she didn't quite believe could be speaking.
She pushed open the door to look in and see if it really could be him.
... whoa. His eyes go a little wide at that skirt. Wow. Erm. He goes slightly pink around the ears and offers her both his hands. "You're... what're you wearing?" He doesn't mean to sound judgemental, but...
Jayne had now been turned to popcorn no less than three times. This had to be some kind of record. He was pretty damned smug about it, too. Other people got turned to popcorn, they never came back. But popcorn didn't have nothing on Jayne Cobb. OK, he'd been stuck in a magic bathroom for a while afterwards with that professor who claimed to be a werewolf and some captain guy in a funny outfit, but still - he was back.
His route back to the Gryffindor dorms took him past the popcorn room, where he stopped to gaze smugly at those who hadn't made it. There was some guy in the room who looked kind of familiar, and he peered inside, trying to get a closer look.
"What th' gorram hell are you doin' here?" Jayne demanded. Dammit, of all the folks from Serenity to come back, it had to be the gorram doctor. Probably his crazy sister was back, too.
"...I don't actually know." He squared his shoulders as Jayne got closer. "What areyou doing here? I was under the impression everyone here was civilized."
Rory was exploring. Which was a good cover for being lost. The latter usually evolved into the former. In some degree, at any rate. At first, Rory had been worried and wandering aimlessly. Eventually she became curious. and the the snooping started. She'd already learned that peering through keyholes or cracking doors justtheslightestbit was probably the most clever approach after a couple close calls with places she was pretty sure she didn't want to go.
But this door... This door was open. It had to be safe. Or, it was probably safe, anyway. Still, she reached her head around the doorway first, half expecting to see...well, not popcorn, thats for certain.
Huh.
"Excuse me? Sorry, hi. Is this..? Well I mean it is. But I guess the question is why."
"I.. think so?" He straightened from where he was examining the plaque and turned to blink at her. "I'm sorry, I don't think I know what you're asking."
"Well its a lot of popcorn. And its not that I have something agaisnt popcorn, I happen to like popcorn, I'm just wondering why theres an entire room for it. With plaques, and pedestals."
She did a 360, to check out her surroundings. Upon finding herself facing him again, something dawned on her. Manners. She forgot manners. She offered her hand out.
"Dr. Simon Tam," he says, blinking slightly. She reminds him a bit of River, before. And of some of his old med school classmates. "They're people. Or, er, they were. Sometimes it just happens here." He gestures to the plaque. "This is who they are. I was up there until yesterday."

"Dr Tam," he said, perhaps more curtly than he intended. "This is ... quite a surprise."
