An Appeal to my F-List

My sister went to Mississippi to visit her in-laws and returned with a flea-infested, malnourished, worm-ridden kitten (Deb can pick 'em!). She definitely saved this little guy from a miserable (and very short, more than likely!) existence. I don't know that I've ever met a sweeter, more amazing little animal. It's as if he knows he was rescued ( Read more... )

Done! He's a beautiful kitty.

And OMG, does Tater's story remind me of how I adopted Othello. I found him at an adoption day for for a no-kill shelter, and he was the runt of the litter, all alone in a cage at the end. He was so sick and underweight and bedraggled, but so sweet that I never even looked at another kitten there. He turned out to have an upper respiratory infection and worms, and he was was severely underweight, but I had to try. I figured that, if nothing else, I could make the rest of his life good for him.

And now he is big and grown up and handsome and well enough to get into mountains of trouble. I'm so glad that the same is true for Tater and that your sister took a chance on rescuing him. :D

I'm so glad you found Othello. There are animals out there who just need a little help from people and they turn into the most wonderful pets. Little Tater spent his first several days in a muddy puddle under a house - that's where the mother cat gave birth. My vet thinks he suffered pneumonia at that very early age because his lung capacity just isn't what it should be...he gets winded very easily and will pant for 15 minutes after playing. But I wouldn't trade him for any other - he's my special boy!

It sounds like Othello and Tater have a lot in common! Othello also has weaker lungs and gets easily winded. When he was a kitten, he would play so hard that he'd have to lay down and pant afterward. But he is a lovely, loving boy, and he even puts up with the clumsy hugs my godchildren want to give him.

I agree with you. Rescue animals can make some of the sweetest, most devoted pets, if only people take the extra time to nurture them and give them a chance.

Thank you! Aww, I love the story of Othello's rescue! I know purebred animals appeal to a lot of people, but I swear the rescued "mutts" make the best companions. I think you're a very special lady to have taken a chance on the little runt. (Actually, I already knew you were a special lady long before Othello's story, but this just cements my opinion!)

*hugs*

Aww, thanks! ~hugs~ He needed me; how could I ever have refused him? He is my very special guy, even now. I've never known a more tolerant, affectionate cat. I completely agree that non-pedigreed rescue animals can be some of the most devoted, sweet-natured pets anybody could want. Boy of my kitties are rescues, and I couldn't have asked for better companions.
