Hey everybody.
So, last night my favorite team in baseball once again put forward a poor effort in losing to the Boston Red Sox 3-0 and losing the World Series 4 games to 0. Now, I'm not irritated that the Red Sox won the World Series. I honestly feel happy for the city of Boston and the men and women of Boston who are in their 70s or 80s and have lived through all the years of despair to finally see this championship. I honestly feel no regret for St. Louis. I don't think they played very well in the Series, but they made it there, which is something I've never witnessed (Well, the last time it happened was 1987, when I was too young to remember). So seeing them make the Series after being picked as the #3 team in their division before the season is fantastic. I still love this team with all my heart. I wore my Cardinals cap around campus today, and received several comments to my disliking, but I still showed my pride. Now, that having been said, I do have some beef.
Students of Auburn University, where do you get off pretending you are Boston Red Sox fans? I mean seriously, you go to school in South Alabama, about a 20-hour drive (if my wild estimates serve me correctly) from Boston. How many of you have ever been further north than Washington, D. C.? How many of you can name the starting rotation and defense for the Red Sox? That's what I thought. So why have I seen SO MANY people sporting Red Sox apparel this last week? Sports are not a trend. For real sports fans, love for your favorite team goes beyond following them in the years that they are winning and being apathetic in the years that they aren't. I absolutely hate how so many people on this campus are now Red Sox fans. This is the logic of far too many people on this campus, and in the whole country.
1) I hate the Cardinals.
Why?
2) Because they played the Red Sox in the World Series, and I love the Red Sox.
Why?
3) Because I hate the Yankees.
Why?
4) Because they have the highest payroll in the major leagues.
Well, Red Sox fuckheads, your team has a pretty high payroll as well. Second highest, if my memory serves me correctly, and not only that, but your team's payroll is closer to that of the Yankees than that of the 3rd highest payroll. You act like the Yankees are so evil because they buy all of their players and try to buy championships, well what the hell do you think you did this year? Name me one player for the Red Sox that came out of Boston's farm system. Pedro didn't. Ortiz didn't. Schilling didn't. Manny didn't. Foulke didn't. This is pathetic. I hate to quote the Bible when ranting about baseball (and in the same post that I used the word "fuckhead"), but don't you need to remove the log from your eye before talking about the speck of dust another's eye? You are just as bad as the Yankees, if not worse. And the people on this campus that go out and buy Red Sox shit just because it's trendy irritates the hell out of me. Would you still be talking about your love for the Red Sox if the Cards had swept them? I highly doubt it. And just so you know I'm not a hypocrite about this, I'm gonna buy the St. Louis Cardinals 2004 NL Champions t-shirt and wear it around Auburn with pride. If you ask me, with the amount of celebration this team has received in the last 24 hours, they don't deserve to win another championship for another 86 years. I think that's about enough ranting about baseball.
In other news, I made a 93 on my Spanish test on Monday, and took an Econ test yesterday that I did NOT do well on at all. I'll find out the verdict tomorrow afternoon. I'm really looking forward to this weekend because I don't have to wake up on Saturday morning, so I can go out on Friday night. We play Ole Miss this weekend, and I think we should handle them pretty well. Maybe a 17-point win, like 24-7 or so. Anyway, that's all in my world. I shall update again soon.
Love,
Sir John Daniel Hogan I, esq.
*UPDATE*
I've poured my heart out about this issue, but I have something more for all of you. This link was sent to me by my fellow Sox-hater and DTD pledge Kevin Moen. It sums up my feelings pretty damn well.
