Weekend Re-Cap

Jun 03, 2002 20:14

Friday night my bass playing compadre and partner in crime in MotorCityBurgers went on a short little promotional spree. We first stopped off at Detektive Riot's show at Lili's 21 in Hamtramck, MI. We hung out for a few and then went over the Magic Stick to try to drum up a little more interest in the show the following evening. It must have been some what successful as a few of the people I handed flyers to i saw the following evening. Then we went to the Lager House where we met with my pal Kevin from 500 FT. OF PIPE and his lovely girlfriend Sarah. We ran into xsinnamonx and darlacet who were sitting in the same chairs we saw them at last weekend. We proceeded to talk to the two charming young ladies until the bar staff threw Jeremy and I out. I think they were just jealous of our amazing verbal skills.

Saturday I went over to my parents house and somehow conned my Mom into doing my laundry for me. Then went to the Loft where Ed and I jammed for a while waiting for Jeremy & Mark to show up. Jig showed up and we went through the setlist for the evening and packed up all the gear into the Suburban. Got to the Magic Stick around 6:30pm. We loaded in all the gear. I set up the bass amp and guitar rigs then called up Danielle to let her know I was all finished with my band responsibilities for now. She was doing a gig at some high class dance club further downtown near the Ponchatrain Hotel, so I went down there and picked her up. We went and had a a great dinner at Twingo's. I hadn't been there in a long while. We talked about how I always get all nervous and freaked out before shows. She's really helping me deal with my bizzare paranoia and control freak tendencies. I think getting away from the venue before the show really helps. Otherwise I just start obsessing about every detail and end up not having a good time at all.

I drove Danielle back to her club and then went back to the venue. When I got there Jig's other band Earthworm were just finishing. Then when he got off stage I got wind of some sort of brewing drama involving one band not showing up because they didn't like the time slot they got for the show. So I guess Jig caved in and let them play anyway and it ended up throwing off the schedule for all of the other bands and ultimately ended up running thr show right up to 2:00am and the final band FrankenChrist didn't end up getting to play.

The bands I got to see play were great through. Bump N' Uglies put on a great show complete a with post show rumble! The Unfriendly's sounded great and have improved greatly since I last saw them. Queen Bee's return was great with Joey from Sponge on guitar. Karen Neal just writes some great songs -- hopefully she can get a new record out soon. Thrall was great as always. One of my favorites of all time.

Post show, the guys who showed up late were all bitching at Jig about the fact that their friend's band got cut out at the end. Words were exchanged and melody_licious ended up decking some broad who deserved it. I didn't see the fight but I heard she was looking for a ladder to climb up and give her a fight ECW style. It's crazy.

I felt bad for all the shit the sound guy had to put up with through out the night and helped him clean up the stage and wrap up cords. He was a cool guy. I think he's the drummer in Mod Ev as well. We talked about all kinds of crazy shit he's seen bands do in the past.

Sunday I think I woke up about 2:00pm and watched a video tape of our performance.(if you're wondering -- We sucked at first but then we finished strong). Then I realized that I never saw my guitar again for the rest of the night. I started gasping and suffered shortness of breath. I love that guitar. I called up Ed, Jig and Mark and asked if they'd remembered loading it in last night. So, I must have either left the thing at the venue or someone else grabbed it. It was such a nice day yesterday that I decided to ride my bike up to the stick and check. It was still there! Then I stopped by the Tiger's game for awhile and collected whatever free stuff people were passing out and headed home.

That's about it. Whew! This week should be fun -- Thursday Myself, Jig, Kevin & Dan G. are going to Chicago to see Queens Of The Stone Age and cause some trouble around that town.
