I’m going to be writing a tutorial for this:

Title: Love is Free signature tutorial
author: hobbleit
programme: Photoshop
translatable: no, includes selective colouring

Credits: All the images used in this tutorial come from .morphine over at Shadowplay's http://z10.invisionfree.com/Shadowplay/index.php?showtopic=12133 wonderful stock pack

Stocks (in order of use):

Model:

Step 1: First open your canvas (9 times out of 10 I always fill it black) and add the first stock. Place it somewhere near the centre as the other stocks will be built up around it. The second and third stocks are placed around the first stock. They are all kept at 100% opacity but I used a layer mask to blend everything together

At the moment it looks like this

Step 2: Next, I added the main flower stock. Again it is set to 100% opacity and the edges masked out. Then I added the clock stock and set that to soft light and again mask out the edges to blend it in then do the same with the final stock image.

It now looks like this

Step 3: Finally I added the model, placing the image in the centre of the canvas and masking it to blend it in.

Step 4: Next add the text. I used #fde4af for the colour. The main text is “Throw your hands up in the air”, I set it to 18pt with a spacing of 50. The secondary text is Sanford 12pt with a spacing of 500 and set to hard light

It now looks like this

Step 5: Now it’s time for the colouring. Firstly, I upped the contrast to 25 and then added two colour fill layers

Fill 1: #fffece set to multiply 100%
Fill 2: #100404 set to exclusion 100%

I then added Gradient 1 (layer- new adjustment layer- gradient map). This is simply a white/black gradient map and set to soft light 50%. I just liked the effect it gave.

Step 6: I wanted to bring out the reds in the image so I added a selective colour layer

Settings: Reds: -100, +35, +15, 0
Yellows: +100, 0, -50, 0
Neutrals: +10, +15, +15, +3

Step 7: Next I added another two gradient maps. The gradients came from http://left-unspoken.net/crossingshadows/index1.html and are from the same pack (the top one). Gradient 2 was set to colour 25% and Gradient 3 to soft light 50%. I then darkened the image slightly by adding a levels adjustment layer (settings: 10, 1.00, 255)

Gradient 2

Gradient 3

Step 8: I added a few more adjustment layers to complete the colouring. Firstly, I added a photo filter layer, cooling filter (82) and reduced that down to 50% opacity. Next I altered the exposure:

Settings: Exposure- +0.55, offset- 0, gamma correction- +0.92

Finally I upped the saturation to +10

Step 9 (optional): This is just an optional bit to finish it off but I usually end my pieces by added a few filters.

Merge all the layers together (ctrl+shift+alt+E) and duplicate so there are three layers

Layer 1- Filter- blur- Gaussian blur radius 1px and set to normal 50%
Layer 2- Filter- sharpen- smart sharpen and set to normal 50%
Layer 3- Filter- other- high pass set to soft light 25%
